Louisiana defeats Stanford to advance to the Super-Regional, likely to face Arizona State.

USA and TX State also have good showings in their respective regionals, but fail to advance. USA lost in the finals to Alabama [# 2 national seed], and TX State went 1-2 with losses to aTm and LSU.

Congratulations to all the women.

VO, if UL softball has a chance at an NCAA title, this is the year. Congrats to other Sunbelt and future Sunbelt teams on fine seasons.

Z, the national announcers in the Notre Dame game yesterday were talking about Washington and Stanford, saying that Stanford should have been a national seed rather than Washington. Louisiana handled Stanford like they were a middle school team, and has already beat Arizona State this year 9-2. The Cajuns have the # 1 RPI in the tournament for non-conference games. This could be the year that the SBC gets its first ever National Championship in a major sport.

If the Cajuns DO win it all, the Sun Belt will have won a NC in softball before the SEC does.

How do the Cajuns match up with top programs like Bama and Cal? My only concern would be could they beat several teams like that rather then just one team.

We only lost 4 games. Either way we will beat either Arizona State at Tempe or Syracuse in Lafayette. It would be nice for the UL crowd to experience the win at home.

Louisiana is undefeated against teams currently left in the tournament, and 16-1 against teams that made the tournament. They have beat Hofstra, Arizona State and Michigan. Alabama is the only team on our side of the bracket that concerns me much. I believe it will come down Alabama, Cal, Oklahoma or the Cajuns.

And that one loss was against USA in the Sun Belt championship. Couldn't be prouder of what USA accomplished in their regional. They gave the number two national seed a real fight.

There were a couple scratch your head calls in the first USA-Alabama game. At one point the announcer was sure that USA struck out a UA batter that would've been the 3rd out of the inning, but they didn't call it and Bama ended up getting 3 runs... We lost 5-2 so those three runs in that inning killed us. It could have been a different ball game. I don't think the outcome of the regional would have been different, persay, because Bama is good. But if we got some pressure on them and squeaked out a win in that first game who knows what would have happened.

This is a young USA team that should be a player next year. Good luck to the Cajuns in the super regionals!

Below was the game by game attendance for the Lafayette regional. The stadium was emptied after each game, and the most impressive to me was the lowest attended game was still over 2,000. My guess is that the softball regional in Lafayette will almost double the baseball regional in Western Kentucky.

G1 Stanford/Baylor 2104

G2 UL/MVST 2628

G3 UL/Stanford 2476 (which I still think is too low)

G4 Baylor/MVST 2085

G5 Stanford/Baylor 2075

G6 UL/Stanford 2729

Total Attendance: 14,097
