A few months ago, the tone seemed to be "no FCS call-ups, let them all go to the Sun Belt". Now, they've added two FCS start-ups (ODU, UTSA) one program yet to play a down in FCS (UNCC) and the general opinion seems to be positive on adding Delaware from the CAA.

To be clear, I think ODU was a great add for them. Good geographic fit, excellent recruiting area, strong fan support and solid basketball. UNCC has a history with the conference, so that makes some sense as well. I'm just not sure what made everyone start to overlook the perceived stigma of adding an FCS team.

I started a whole thread about this very thing. I NEVER will accept a CUSA poster smacking the SBC around anymore about being a confrence for 'FCS to FBS Startups". CUSA with the additions of UTSA/UNCC/ODU are now in the same category as the SBC as far as "Startups" are concerned.

They were all good pickups, but I think that SBC's pull up of GSU and TxState are more valuable then thiers as we got back into Texas and picked up a whole new market in Georgia. UNCC hasnt played a DOWN of football in any capacity. Thats a HUGE leap for CUSA IMHO.

I thought the idea of being completely against FCS schools was stupid. ODU has always been the best possible candidate.

:iagree:
Not all of us were dead set against adding FCS teams. I thought ODU and Charlotte were good choices. Still don't know about UTSA.

Charlotte I don't fully agree on. I have more faith in UTSA than them. Having lived in NC my entire life I have serious doubts about their ability to actually have a real FB fan base.

I wouldn't say that. I know for a fact that Terry Holland (ECU AD) and Mike Hamrick (Marshall AD) was pushing for ODU, Charlotte and 2 MAC schools (Most likely 2 of the 3 of Ohio, Toledo and Akron).
I was really suprised when I learned that no one went to bat for Middle Tenn and WKU.

Well, from what I understood, the expansion was only going to be UNT, FIU and UTSA. When Memphis left, La Tech needed to be added and something had to be done about C-USA basketball. Sure, the UNCC and ODU scenario may have been out there and studied but it wasn't until Memphis left that it became a priority.

What does Charlotte do to improve basketball? Haven't they been in the toilet for a while now?

Houston was the Case Keenum show. The year Keenum went down they were 5 and 7 and only won 3 games that Keenum wasn't in. In no way was Houston the best football program. That still belongs to USM by the scoreboard last year in the championship game, USM 49 Houston 28.

I did say arguably. 04-cheers

A case can certainly be made for USM.

There is no arguing. They were not the best. The only thing CUSA lost that was valuable was Memphis Basketball. And they cheated to get where they are now while under Cal.

The A-10 toilet is on a higher floor than where the C-USA toilet currently resides.
