What a mess 2011 was. They reminded me of our 2005/2006 teams that just expected other teams to lay down given past results. I know there is some talent here, and they could very well bounce back, I just don't believe it will be this season. The sun belt could potentially have 5 bowl eligible teams this season and although it wouldn't surprise me to see MT take down any of UNT, FAU or ULM, anything beyond that would be a miracle. I think MT takes babysteps towards being .500 again.

Drinking the blue kool-aid here, but I think we surprise people.

Even by your rankings, there should be 5 wins in the schedule (McNeese, FAU, Memphis, USA, ULM), and then we only have to knock off one more for bowl eligibility.

MT sucked last year for 1 simple reason - our DL got banged up and we had no one to plug in there.

We were looking good until the Cajuns game we started getting thin on DL due to injury. Our starters at DT were sub-280. Our backup DT's (both of which were ends in September, turned into DT's in October) weighed 248 and 245 - and we started a linebacker at DT against ULM.

Then teams started just rolled over us on the ground:

Cajuns - 338 yds rushing
ULM: 260 yds rushing
ASU: 202 yds rushing
FIU: 181 yds rushing
NT: 464!!!! yds rushing

FIU and NT didn't really even bother to throw the ball. NT had 7 pass attempts.

Prior to the Cajun game, we were holding the opposing ground game to 3.7 ypc (not great, but not bad). After the Cajun game, we gave up 5.3 ypc until the end of the year.

This year, we've rectified that problem on the DL:

Weights of our projected DT rotation:

Dangerfield: 276lbs
McNeil: 295lbs - hurt all last year
Frazier: 281lbs - RS
Jones: 314lbs - hurt all last year
Staten - 300lbs
Moore - 298lbs - hurt for several games last yaer.

That doesn't include a 300lb and 290lb incoming freshman.

Add into that a legit DC in Tyrone Nix, the mysterious turnovers=turnaround factor that always comes to play, and the fact that we seemed one of those snakebit teams that never seemed to get a favorable bounce all last year, has me excited for 2012.

Yeah, it's alot of info you probably don't care to read, but what can I say - I got excited thinking about actual football instead of conference realignment, and got carried away.

Remember this post when MT gets 2 of those teams ahead of us in your rankings (I'm thinking NT and WKU)

A lot of similarities between you guys and Troy.

I would think so. People always instinctively base how a team will perform on how they did the year before. But that way of thinking almost never pans out. Just about every magazine picks the previous years sunbelt champion to win it all again, and that too almost never happens. I just can't see MTSU having another terrible year. The same can be said of my Trojans.

Yep. Remember the Troy guy posting about how Troy would dominate baseball this year ? Or the NT guy who thought NT would run away with men's hoops ? MT was an afterthought in men's hoops preseason.

Or MT getting ranked #38 in the nation by Phil Steele in the preseason following our New Orleans Bowl victory ? We finished 6-7 and were damn lucky to get that many wins (and a Mobile Bowl berth).
