Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-1968)
Anyone else watching this on Netflix? I've never seen anything star trek (other than the move that came out a few years ago) so I decided to start at the beginning. Much better than I expected. I do remember seeing some other star trek as a young child (I don't count this) and I remember a different, yet better theme song. Anyone else like the original star trek?

He hehehe

I was alive and watched the original series as an original series. I also watched it over and over in reruns through the years. The hubster and I introduced it to our kids very early on (ie: the reruns) and, like me, can list every episode and every season.

There was a time when my kids would test me in the first 10 seconds of a show and have me name the episode. (They're now in their mid 30's)

While they know/like all things Star Trek (all the series and the movies) they aren't trekkies but are very knowledgeable.

The original is outdated from a technological standpoint (and Shatner was a little over the top acting-wise) but it's still worth watching.

Believe it not at the time, it (the original series) was groundbreaking...I watched it a few times when I was in Huntsville visiting relatives as a kid in the sixties, but growing up in Nashville, the network affiliate chose to go with some other show, so I didn't see it until it was in reruns on tv in the seventies. In the sixties, the only other sci-fi option was 'Lost in Space' and that was an abomination. It did to that comic book story line what the Batman show did to the Batman story line. Awful.

The various series that spun off TNG (Star Trek the next generation) was better written and IMO, had better plots, though at times it got preachy. Overall, the Star Trek series(s) was some of the best sci-fi on television and while the original is date, the later stuff holds up pretty well.

Not sure if we would've had the later stuff if not for the success of Star Wars. That encouraged the first movie and its success gave birth to the later Star Trek stuff.

I've seen all of Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and The Next Generation. I loved them all.

I've enjoyed the few Original Series episodes I've seen.

They are a hell of a lot better than any episode of Enterprise that was ever made. What a piece of **** Star Trek series.

I enjoy most forms of Trek. The original series has some poignant moments and a fun raygun gothic feel. The Next Generation might be the pinnacle of the franchise (Darmok, anyone?). I also love the old cartoon.

And I really respect the most recent movie. Managed to be Trek-y while still a lot of fun for modern movie audiences. My wife even liked it.

Oddly enough, the more I see the latest Star Trek movie the more I like it.

I just really wish they would move on from that era already. They have been obsessed with it for long enough now. Let's go into the future and see what happens next.
