RE: Troy Player/Recruit Arrested for Burglary
I wonder why some people always seem to take great delight in the criminal activities of another school's athletes. It is not like every team doesn't have their share of this type of behavior. Some maybe more than others, but it happens everywhere.

I also abhor the typical defenses for these activities. Ramon noodles, college athletes seldom go hungry; with full scholarship and probably Pell grants. Each case is different, and it is my belief that they should be treated like any other student at the institution and subject to the law like anyone else.

Also, to the it is a "privilege not a right" crowd, it is neither. College sports should be fun and their are a lot of responsibilities that come with a scholarship. It may be a privilege to some or a job to others. College athletes work to get and maintain that ship, to me their motivation, effort and skill overrides any entitlement issues.

So you are saying it is a privilege? I agree
By saying it should be fun (it should be) those responsibilities should be upheld making it a privilege that can be taken away for not doing so.

Also, those who are calling it a prank and claiming it is no big deal. If I break into my office and use the fire extinguishers, spray condiments around and leave running water on I should be able to just claim it was a prank? Sorry, but at 18 they should know better and should be treated like anyone else.

Beyah-- no longer on football team when arrest happened -- case dropped-- on an NFL roster now
King-- kicked off of football team
Bailey-- no longer on football team when arrest happened
Nolan-- broke someone's nose in a fight, case still pending

I believe each and every one of our schools has had arrests recently. Unfortunately, it's part of college athletics.

I think back in the day our football coach (Boots Donnelly) could keep some of the stuff out of the papers.

Now it gets out almost before it happens.

That said, every time we have an arrest it seems to get posted here by a Troy fan. Turnabout is fair play.

Fair enough. I think it's a response to a time when you guys were crystal clean and making light of anytime a troy guy got arrested, we were said to be Thug U by you guys and now the tables have turned. Turnabout is fair play. 04-cheers

Well, I just didn't hear about this at all. When did that happen and what did he do? Which NFL team is he on?

That's the WR that caught that hail mary pass right? From what I remember he was pretty good.

I think this is getting totally blown out of proportion. Every team at one time or another has had issues with there athletes, if it is or isn't known to the public. It is up to the coaches to mold these kids into upstanding citizens. In other words, "Dont go pointing finger, when you have four fingers pointing back at you."

I agree.

But also remember that statement when the next MT athlete is arrested....... and, unfortunately, there will be another most likely sooner than later.

At the same time, if the guys commit a serious crime I want them kicked off MY university's team. They shouldn't be given that honor.

It will get bumped down to a misdemeanor. I know the judge, and being it was his first offense.

I was not referencing your guy. I'm talking about MT's who are arrested. I want their arses off the team.

For me it depends on the crime. If it is typical youthful indiscretion like under age drinking or getting in a fight. I say give them a break. Because most students have one or both of those happen. However, if its dealing, theft, domestic violence, guns or getting behind the wheel drunk then I say no to second chances. If they want a second chance get a job and pay your own way. That's a second chance. As far as this Troy kid goes I would have to see the amount of damage caused. If it's a high school prank I say he should play. If it's vandalism he should be gone. It shouldn't be hard to tell the difference.
