If we had a "solid rumor" come out and then be false, I think the JMU fanbase would collectively commit suicide from the frustration.

We are currently hiding all sharp objects in Boone, NC! I'm not jumping off any bridges and remain confident that we will find a home, just a matter of time. Of course I'd prefer sooner but we'll see how it shakes out.

The Yahoo guy is a real piece of work though. I heard Benson say himself he's talked to us and GA Southern, then this guy writes an article basically saying the Sun Belt may be interested but we are not returning the interest based on him taking liberties with our AD's letter that said nothing to that effect at all. Then a day or two later, he says that the two sides have never even spoken. I even called him out for his dumb tweet and of course... no response.

It wasn't a rumor. This is a case of the App president covering his ass because they didn't get in CUSA or the BELT.
and why didn't they get into the belt? I thought there was a thread the other day saying that he had a reliable source that is right 90% of the time, telling him that App will get an invite. Was it just the 10% wrong in this case?

I started that thread and came back the next day after the conference presidents met and explain that things had changed. The presidents want to hold at 10 for football and 12 overall. Aparrently my source heard it from a president who was pushing for App and didn't get the rest of the presidents to agree. It has turned into a wait and see approach. Next time try to keep up instead of just reading half the post.

RE: App St. release
Well, the Belt met Monday and meets again in just over a week. App. St. is very cryptic. The BE is potentially crumbling. ODU hasn't been announced for CUSA.

At this point I don't see how anyone can say with any certainty that App. St. is or isn't in play or GSU for that matter.

The NCAA needs to get its s#@t together and appoint someone or a committee to fix the conference alingment mess but it will never happen. An NCAA of schools working together towards regional conferences and a playoff would benefit everyone financially and otherwise but we will continue with the mercenary style.

As someone who follows Appalachian very closely, that is probably the best possible way to describe our athletic department. It basically took flooding his inbox and threatening him with pitchforks just to get Cobb to send a "hold tight, we're working on it" release. Given how badly that simple statement has been skewed and misinterpreted by that Yahoo genius, I'd be willing to bet he regrets even doing that. I firmly believe we will not hear another peep from the ASU camp until the ink is dry.

Someone tell Benson that when he said he had spoken with App State that he was lying.

According to that "Journalist" Graham Watson who might as well be ben moore for his "sources" Benson was talking to himself last time he spoke with App State admins.

RE: App St. release
Maybe that's the whole problem....Benson is talking to himself.
Would think if the Sun Belt is ever going to take additional schools in, besides Texas-Arlington, that it could be very beneficial to go ahead and add them for later years. Would take App State, or whoever FCS school, two years to transition and be playing with full Sun Belt FBS schedules.
Especially considering all the talk about MTSU, WKU, or FIU or GaSt or whoever leaving.
Does anyone honestly think that the Sun Belt will not lost anymore teams within the next two years?
So, it looks like SB self-protection to go ahead and do what they are going to do adding, if they are.

RE: App St. release
With the way things are going, I am not convinced that we will lose more teams since the money in the new TV deals is turning out lower than anticipated. Maybe we doo but it's just as likely that the BE collapses again and grabs the top 2 or 3 (there's only 3 worth grabbing) from CUSA and then there rally is no incentive to join CUSA.

In lieu of that possibility, I don't know why we don't add App. St. and one more to make sure that there is no question that our conference is as good or better than CUSA if they lose a couple.

Also starting to wonder if we won't offer NMSU a home since they seem to be very quiet. I could stomach that only if we add App. St. but would still prefer App. St. and Ga. So. to give us a nice eastern division.

RE: App St. release
Ive given up on the speculation. Nothing thats happening makes any sense.

First, the CUSA TV deal hits a brick wall, despite adding the all important "media markets." Now the Big East appears to be stuck in the mud. So both of those conferences have enormous footprints and limited TV dollars. It looks like the media, ie ESPN has more control over the realignment than the ncaa or conferences. Keeping things off balance only helps them, and nothing is more unbalanced than a conference spread from the Atlantic to Pacific. Both the BE and Cusa have lost alot of credibility this go-around, and will be bargaining from an even weaker position should their current mess crumble.

You know Benson must have some insight on whats screwing the BE and Cusa, so why isnt he deviating from the path that appears doomed to fail? Who knows.

Looks like by going ahead and adding App State and whoever would also help some on whatever TV and media negotiations that the Sun Belt will have to go into.

Even though App is not located in a big market they are just on the edge of four TV markets that really would be huge added together. If you look at a population density map, like the one some school put up a few days ago, Boone and the areas around it are quite populated with the dense color of red in and all around it.

I honestly believe, if Cobb could get Benson, and representatives form half the schools up the mountain, we'd be in yesterday. The same as when I checked out NCST and App. Once I saw Boone, there was no way I was leaving, and Boone is much much nicer than it was when I was there.

Glass, are you saying that Boone got better looking AFTER you left?
Not many people would admit something like that.

YES. Thats why NCST wanted me so bad, something to do with their veterinarian school... And that Sasquatch sighting down by Charlotte, that was me searching the woods trying to find Uncc's media market, I tought they might be hiding. Never did find em.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
