Oh I don't know, I think App State is one of those programs folks like to pull for. Yall are the eternal underdog, and Americans love an underdog. I think if App got in to the Sun Belt it would peak the public's interest and we would see more eyeballs watching Sun Belt football. App State has name recognition thanks to the Michigan upset and the fact the program is the top FCS team in the country.

Personally, I seek out Mountaineer games on TV. A lot of Saturdays I turn on my xbox360 and access the espn3.com app so I can watch more games. I like to watch the App State games when there isn't a Sun Belt game on at the time. The video coverage is generally pretty lousy because it is FCS football, but I watch it nevertheless.

I see App State and Troy to be very similar. We're both big dawgs in "small ponds." People within our own circles like to hate on us, but those outside our peer groups like to pull for us because we're small and have been able to build powerhouse programs through nothing more than hard work and determination. I'm a Trojan, a Trojan who admires the Mountaineers. 04-cheers

Agree...04-cheers

Also would like to add. App. State would be less likely to be raided by another conference from the SBC due to Small market, Because if it were about best program Troy, and ASU would be the one leaving the SBC. Lets add quality programs.

Yes it was part of "South" back then. But really...who considers Virginia part of the south....99% of everybody doesnt!....The Southern States are as follows....South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Mississippi, Arkansas, Louisiana.

East Texas and Kentucky are even pushing it for me, but I guess I can include them.

Conclusion...Virginia is outside the SBC footprint and Thus Liberty is.

Georgia Southern has won their conference tourny in softball, so my vote is for them.

Just an FYI, Texas St won theirs too.

My guess is that it is UTA. I think and hope we are done for now. No hateorade for Ga Southern and Appy, but I want to get South, Ga State and Texas State competitive before we add more FCS teams. Remember we also have FAU (once competitive, but now in chaos and with an almost inexcusable non-conference schedule - can you please start scheduling FBS non-conference home games please) and ULM to deal with as well.

Would like to think it is App State, but since UTA was announced as a done deal just about weeks ago, would think it is them. Guess we will never be conference mates.

It will not be App or Southern. However, App and Southern fans need not fret, their time is coming as soon as either the Big East collapses, or the ACC irks Florida State just enough to make them move.

Huh? Virginia wasn't the heart of the South during the Confederacy (see map). The heart would appear to be Alabama, and why Alabama is nicknamed the "Heart of Dixie". 03-drunk

Richmond, and Danville were both Capitols, Lee from Virginia. Some of the biggest battles happened in VA.

I was referring to Alabama's state nickname of "Heart of Dixie" referring to Alabama's location in the center... I wasn't talking capitals or importance of states. :)

RE: New SBC member coming soon.
Virginia and Alabama were probably both the center of the Confederacy during the Civil War. Virginia especially, ironically for all that we enjoy making fun of West Virginia, it was their stance on slavery that caused them to secede from Virginia.
If the Sun Belt doesn't take Appalachian and/or Liberty by June 1st, the MAC should jump all over those two.
