Question South Alabama 2012 Sun Belt Softball Champions!
Both South Alabama and Louisiana-Lafayette made it through the Sun Belt Softball Tournament without a loss and meet in the championship game tomorrow. South Alabama was swept by Louisiana-Lafayette in the regular season in Lafayette, but the games were close: 1-0 in 10 innings, 2-0, and 3-0. USA pitching held Louisiana-Lafayette to season lows in hits and runs and if the USA bats come alive it should be a very entertaining game. The game will be televised on ESPN3 and CSS at 4 PM Eastern. We might be looking at two NCAA tournament teams face off tomorrow.

Jeez....

Okay. The CAJUNS and JAGS in the championship is the best recipe for sending two SBC teams to the NCAA Regionals, regardless of who wins tomorrow. And from an RPI standpoint, if the Cajuns manage to beat the Jags (top 50 program), it gives the Cajuns an added RPI bonus, thus improving their chances (however remotely), of earning a national seed. Plus, I believe the Jags will easily get an at-large invite. If the Jags win, the Cajuns will still likely host and the Jags are in.

Win, win for both.

Always felt like we could have a competitive softball team quickly. Softball in this area is really good, and brings home a lot of state high school championships. We've had a program for what, like 5 years?

Good luck to both squads tomorrow. Hopefully both can make some noise in the post season.

The state of Alabama ranks up there with with California and Arizona. Having USA and Troy in the SBC is invaluable, and why I think this can easily become a power conference. The Sun Belt already is the number seven league behind the "big-six", thus number one amongst mid-majors....

No doubt. With y'alls consistency, and our hopeful emergence, I just might start watching some SBC softball these days.

Sad thing is our county is very strong in softball (with several state championships), and I've heard our state is strong. No excuses for our joke of a coach, Sue Nevar.

She routinely recruits northern players, where she's from. 03-banghead

Latest conference RPI rankings

#1 Pac-12
#2 Big XII
#3 SEC
#4 ACC
#5 Big East
#6 Big Ten
#7 Sun Belt
#8 Mountain West
#9 CUSA
#10 WAC
#11 Atlantic Sun
#12 MAC
#13 Missouri Valley
#14 Big West
#15 Southern

I think the SBC can reach #4 with our current members when considering the talent within the recruiting footprint. And as success in the win column increases, so does that footprint.

You really should. Softball is not the equivalent to women's basketball. It is a lot different than baseball. Fun to watch, especially when supporting a winning team, such as yours. 04-cheers

Another good game today is Florida vs. Alabama in Tuscaloosa for the SEC championship on ESPNU.

I'm not sure if you took offense to something, but I didn't mean to. I agree with what you said. Win or lose I think both teams should be in the NCAA Tourney.

While I'm not a huge softball fan, I like to see all MTSU athletics do well...and I believe it's about time for Nevar to go. Our softball has been total crap for years. Oh, and the all black uniforms should go too.

Dadgum! This UGA-USC game was cruising, but they've stopped play due to rain with 2 outs left. Looks like viewers on CSS might miss the start of the game.

In only their 5th year as a program, the South Alabama Softball team takes down Louisiana-Lafayette in a 3-1 win. HUGE win by the Jags. I'm proud of the Lady Jags!

My hope is that we're saying the exact same thing about our football team at the end of the 2013 season 04-cheers

Good win for the Lady Jags. I'm proud of 'em. Lady Cajuns have a great program and wish them the best in the NCAAs. Fact is I'm proud of them too.

It'd be awesome if Louisiana-Lafayette and USA both somehow ended up in Oklahoma City for the College World Series.

I'll second that. Congrats to the Jags!! Holding the nation's number one scoring team to seven points in four games is nothing short of amazing.

Best of luck going forward!
