RE: Bleacher Report: 25 Small Schools That Deserve Some Love from 'ESPN College GameDay'
It really is a screw job by ESPN to not give any of us some Gameday love. Gameday at LSU, Alabama, Florida, USC, Michigan, Ohio State, etc, etc is just another Saturday for them. Plus no one gets up on Saturday morning and says "Oh damn, Gameday is at Oklahoma this weekend, I gotta watch it". Now a Gameday at a Sunbelt, CUSA, MAC, or FCS school would really be a sight to see because fans would come out in full force for a rare luxury the big guys take for granted.

I guess I should be glad that we made the almighty bleacher report list, but their description for TROY was kinda insulting.

Why do they use the word "small" for all these program. WKU for example has approx 20,000 students. Maybe less publicised or non-BCS or something besides small.

Its not just them I have seen our NFL draft pick descried as being from "small college" Georgia State repeatedly. They mean small program I guess as in not having a $90M budget

It sort of irritates me when people use "they" when describing an "article" from Bleacher Report. It would be like getting upset at blogger.com for every idiot that has a blog on their website. Bleacher Report is nothing more than a glorified blog website with a bunch of bloggers pretending to be something more. I'm sure there are some decent bloggers on BR, but they're never circulated because their content doesn't create the same ire.

Yet, we still give them traffic when someone here links to such blogs, especially when that subject involves something which piques our interest.

Such is the nature of sports media, or media in general. All about hit-count in the internet age...

I really think you've got a bad take on this. I tune into Gameday no matter where it is, unless I'm already tailgating. It makes absolutely no difference to me where they're having Gameday.

Having said that, it has little to do with the size of the program and much more to do with the magnitude of the game being played. Hell they went to Vanderbilt one year when I was a student at MT. I'd say at least 75% of the time, any educated college football fan could look at a the slate of games for a given Saturday and reasonably predict where Gameday will be hosted.

We could probably make pretty accurate guesses even now in May. Granted, it's subject to change with some teams overachieving and others underachieving and other compelling storylines... not wanting to look through the entire schedule at this late hour, I feel pretty confident about where they'll be week 1

September 1st
Michigan @ Alabama-Two of the marquee programs and the defending national champions.

Now if Gameday wanted to do something really interesting. I mean realllllly interesting. They'd do week 1 from the Notre Dame @ Navy game...being played in Dublin. I'm sure the Gameday crew would be all for it and if there wasn't such an obvious choice in Tuscaloosa that same day, maybe they'd do it, but odds are they end up in T-town that day, but I'd be willing to bet they've discussed the possibility of doing it in Dublin.

I believe the Alabama vs Michigan game is going to be at Cowboy Stadium, like the LSU vs Oregon game was last year.

yes- that is irritating...baylor-smu-tcu..8 or 9,000...tulsa-tulane even less..sound small to me..unt-ga state-uta 35,000 not small.....evidently the "small" label refers to budget.....

That's interesting, ESPN's week 1 schedule doesn't have it denoted as a neutral site game.

Either way, unless they decide to pony up the money to send the crew to Dublin, I expect Alabama vs Michigan to be the Gameday location.

That's one of the points I was trying to stress. It doesn't matter where Gameday is at, people will still watch it. It could be a a D3 school and it wouldn't effect the ratings. I understand that they always do "the important" games like Alabama vs. LSU or Michigan vs. Ohio State but who is to say that Troy vs. Arkie State with the SBC title on the line, or Louisiana Tech vs. Nevada for the WAC title isn't an important game. I'm just saying there are a total of 15 weeks of college football, give CUSA, MWC, SBC, and the MAC each a Gameday once a year. Hell they let ACC and Big East schools host it for crying out loud. I will give ESPN some credit for doing Gameday at the Army/Navy game each year even though it is the only game of the 15th week.

Are people really surprised with the "small college" label?
