Is ULM dropping a sport, or just getting Title-9 compliant ? Are they dropping scholies from any other sport (track, cross country, etc) ?

To my knowledge, no sports are being dropped. Our current volleyball coach pushed for the addition of the sport since he has experience with it...

RE: ULM Adds Sand Volleyball
Despite the dirty old men implications, I am not in favor of this sport at all.

It will likely evolve into a situation like track, were you have an indoor and outdoor season and use basically the same athletes. Although volleyball purists argue that it is a very different game from indoor volleyball, I don't buy it. My understanding is that the college game, is played like Tennis in that you have 5 seeded teams of two that play and the team winning the most match ups, wins the event. The difference versus volleyball is that it is played with two instead of six and doesn't have all the crazy substitutions that volleyball has grown into. Bench volleyball develops a more rounded player but the game is basically the same.

It is popular because of the pro beach volleyball and it is relatively cheap. Those that watch the pro game will see the same game at the college level but no bikinis and it will not be anymore sexy than the current girls volleyball team. Facilities are comparatively easy to construct and if they raise the volleyball ship limit it will be small.

This is an example of another title nine addition that will have no more following than equestrian, rowing, or trout fishing; but it is an easy way to add another women's sport. Are there any schools adding men's bench volleyball. I doubt it; even thought it is cheap; there are only a handful of universities with men's indoor volleyball.

They came in fourth in a region of six teams. However they did score the first point in NCAA sand volleyball history....so at least they have THAT going for them.

Guess it's time to do my civic duty and take the time to enlist and organize App State's first sand volleyball team. It's a hard job I am sure, but I am certain that I would be up to the job.

Not everyone has a beach so the rest of us make do with what we have.
