RE: LAX
9 men on a side, plus a goalie. 3 Attackmen, 3 Middies, and 3 Long Stick Defenders.

Each team must keep at least four players, including the goalie, in its defensive half of the field and three in its offensive half. Three players (midfielders) may roam the entire field.

There's a face-off to begin each quarter, and after every goal. If you control the face-offs, you control the game.

After a missed shot, the team closest to the ball when it goes out-of-bounds gets posession. The team on offense always makes sure to have a player behind the goal to "back-up" a missed shot.

There currently isn't a shot clock, but the offense must make an attempt to score, or a stall warning will be called ... in which case the offense must keep the ball within a much smaller zone.

Penalties are either :30 or 1:00 in length, and give the other team a man-up advantage.

Hope this helps:

There will be a lot of LAX on TV this weekend, and I'm sure you'll pick it up.

Watch SU's game on Saturday, then post any questions and I'll try to answer.

The only thing that you really need to know is this: The ACC has the #1 LAX conference in america with only 4 teams (Carolina, Dook, Maryland and UVa). The addition of Syracuse will take ACC LAX to an even higher level.

RE: LAX
Cool fact: Syracuse has as many NCAA championships in Lacrosse as the ACC does. When Syracuse joins, about 1/2 of all lacrosse championships will be by ACC schools.

The ball moves at the speed of a pitched baseball.
Players can hit, very physical and at a higher constant speed than football.
All of the athleticism of hoops.
The endurance of soccer.
Did I mention players get to hit - and hard!

I don't know all the rules, but it is fun to watch!

The one thing the sport desperately needs is a shot clock. If it were my decision I would set it at 2.5mins. It starts once you cross midfield.

2.5 minutes???

They're considering anywhere from 30-45 seconds.

While I would like that, and it'd make the game much more fun to watch, I'm not sure how some teams would adjust. Many teams take awhile before they shoot.

There would definitly be some high scoring games.

The shot clock hurts the slower teas that control the game and break down the discipline of the faster teams. I love a scoring feast as much as anyone in any sport, but it does eliminate good players with a lot of self control and discipline who simply are not quite as fast.

No shot clock! It ruined hoops. Don't let it ruin lacrosse.

I'm sorry to disagree so forcefully, but I remember seeing a Clemson/UNC game in Littlejohn Colliseum before the shot clock - I don't think either team scored double digits! The shot clock saved basketball IMO.
