UNT and FIU fans
If you were going to keep on SBC school on your schedule for football and basketball who would it be?

I'd imagine FIU is kind of a no-brainer, right? With no other non-AQ schools in the state, I doubt UCF or USF look to lock into a long-term rivalry with you guys and while you may make an argument for trying to establish (cue the La Tech fans) "separation" I think continuing to play FAU in all sports would be too beneficial to pass up, especially with the gap between CUSA and SBC closing, you're not really in a position to dictate terms. So I guess my question to FIU fans is more do you want to continue playing FAU? And are there any other SBC members you'd like to keep on the schedule in football, basketball or any other sport?

North Texas is a different story, certainly no "no-brainers" to keep on the schedule in football or basketball. For football I'd imagine you guys would entertain the idea of OOC series with the Cajuns and Arkansas State, maybe MT, but I'm not sure if an OOC series for two non-AQ schools that far apart is really worth it especially when our history is limited to just the Sun Belt, but I would imagine you guys would probably like to see the Cajuns, WKU and maybe USA on your OOC basketball schedule from time to time, yes?

I think many of the FAU and FIU fans would like to see us continue to schedule each other for certain. As you've said being so close makes it a no brainer. I would imagine that in Olympic sports it would certainly continue on as there is more room.

Football will be another matter as there are only 12 games one can have and those schedules are done way in advance. Pete Garcia said he was unsure if FIU could continue the Shula bowl with FAU because he hadnt seen how the con/non-con games were going to work out.

I certainly hope so, but I have my doubts that football stays an annual event.

FAU would be the team. But like owlfamily, I have my doubts if it will continue on an annual basis for football. But it should be played, even if not yearly.

If any Belt schools, I'd say Middle. We're locked into multi year home-homes with Army and SMU so we won't have much wiggle room in OC scheduling.

I think our OOC schedule is full till 2015. It's going to be tough. But yes, Olympic sports should be a no-brainer.

Not sure how often it can be worked out in football, and ignoring NT still has a big year of Belt athletics to contend with; I would like NT to continue a relationship with ULL, ASU, MTSU, and WKU. ULL and ASU are close and long time foes. There was actually some animosity between MTSU and NT for a while. I feel that WKU would continue to be a great BB rival.

So there will be 8 C-USA games? I think FIU should continue to schedule a probable OOC win like Akron and then the final 3 games be winnable games against BCS schools that are willing to play in Miami (Louisville, Rutgers, Duke types). FIU needs opponents that will fill the stands (pay bills and grow the fanbase) but won't take them to the woodshed like an Alabama.

I just don't know if scheduling FAU would be the best move. It's a rivalry I didn't think most FIU folk ever really bought into.

With that said, FAU would probably make the most sense out of current SBC members.

I think we should make it a point to schedule FAU a couple of times a decade in football home and away (obviously continue to play them in all the other oly sports and baseball). I think we should also make it a point to schedule a home/home series against a Sun Belt program so that there is always a Belt school on the schedule.

Beyond that we should make it a priority to schedule home and homes with the highest profile schools for this area. Not sure however, how difficult or easy it's going to be to get higher profile schools to schedule us home/home if our program continues to improve. Maybe, like the issues USM and Troy have, some of the big boys won't want to reciprocate.
