That doesnt mean anything for certain, but Im guessing that App would not turn down an invite.

As for Southern, I have heard no such rumors. Though I admit they make sense with App.

I do not know anything for certain, although the rumor on our end was that talks were picking up steam last week. However, based on what you've heard, it is entirely possible that our administration would not even know that they are at the top of the list yet. If it turns out to be accurate (which I hope it is), I would expect us to take the invite, especially if it seems fairly probably that GA Southern will be joining us a year later.

I trust your sources better then Seminole Indians...

I take it you have heard the same thing? I do hope this comes true. App would compete right away.

Hopefully if they join they will finally get their main message board off of Delphi.

It is a joke compared to the newer boards, but they took a poll last year and decided to keep it temporarily. Will probably go with this though.
Man this Sun Belt membership is going to be great.

Don't get to excited. Your school still has to agree to join. The invite will be officially sent tomorrow.

Once again. Every athletic director of a school looking to move is going to say they contacted CUSA. That does not mean they intend to get in that league.

Our budget has gone up $3 million since the feasability study two years ago. It is now roughly the same as Arkansas State's who won the Sun Belt last year. As an FBS team we will easily be in the $14-$16 million range which is in line with the rest of the Sun Belt.

We will have 25,000 students in the next 5 years which is well above the Sun Belt average. Budget will not be an issue once we announce FBS.

Let's not turn this into another thread that is Ga State vs Ga Southern pissing match no matter how much you guys can't stand the thought of getting beat by us in the SB.

Supposedly Georgia Southern is not completely ready yet, and needs another year. What ive heard the list is this

1. App State
2. Georgia Southern
3. New Mexico State

If Georgia Southern is indeed not ready, NMSU gets an all sport invite, and they will stay for a few years. If at any point NMSU or MTSU or someone else leaves, Georgia Southern gets the invite.

There is still potential the league might go to 14 football.

Your ongoing budget is not an issue, but transition and upgrade costs are what is killer.

i really don't think its a pissing match. there are genuine concerns with georgia southern. budget, how they will transition, facilities, basketball. now i see that football drives the bus, but basketball is a spot in the league where we need some serious help. i think NMST gives us a lot of help in this area and i think they will be who we eventually choose a long with APP state. IMO App state is the #1 FCS program that should be on our list. they have name recognition and are in a state not yet in our footprint. I'm not saying Southern isn't a good fit for the belt i just don't think its now. I'm sure though when realignment cranks up again and we loose someone southern is on deck. but right now add 1 in the east (app) and 1 in the west (NMST) it keeps from having to move the Alabama teams to the west division. or splitting up any current rivals.

Would like to see Georgia Southern into the Sun Belt. Seems would be a permanent improvement. From what most of you have said NMSU might be OK for a short period of time, which seems they are fine with, but doesn't seem like you are in favor of them long term. I bet Georgia Southern would become a future pillar of the Sun Belt like App State.

I could see this.

Have App St. and NMST join for 2013 and have Georgia Southern join in 2014 or 2015 along with a UT-Arlington football team.

If this is true, I think this is the best possible add the Belt could have made. App State is a great program and should have been FBS for a while now. NMSU won't be that bad if in fact it goes to 12 and we have east and west divisions.

Their budget is doable as an ongoing thing.....the problem is the transition costs and upgrades.

So they have the money, but not the money? I'm not really following...

If GaSo has to wait a couple of years at least they could work on exactly what needs to be fixed. Would give then time to complete their 50,000 sq foot end zone athletic complex also. Would like to see them in right away, but soon is not bad either.

Georgia Southern's budget is the reason I hope they are not added. They do not have the funds to do well in the Olympic sports and invest in their football program.

Their ongoing budget year to year isn't that different from us and more than Monroe. That's not a problem beyond the fact that its freaking low for all three schools. It can be done as evidenced by last year.

But we at Arkansas State and Monroe don't have transition costs since we are already in FBS. Georgia Southern will...above and beyond the normal budget.
