I don't mind having 12. I really think BB needs NMSU...but I am not sold on a CCG. Of course if you have 12 you will have a championship game.

this board is full of newbs proclaiming we HAVE TO get to 12 football playing members so we can have a championship game.

i believe it would be disastrous to have a football mirror of the anemic hot springs crowds we put on espn for our hoops tourney.

these newbs act like we're a junior sec league and we'd rock the georgia dome and we'd get so many more televizzle dollars from the espn.

you're generally regarded as the smartest guy in the room (when i'm not present).

i have to cede conference politics and finances to you. i get to keep pee wee beisbol and sun belt conference hoops in my corner. that makes us equal (in beed bizarro world)

what up? what say you?

Not a fan of a title game. I believe if you are going to do it, you pick a rating method (BCS if its still around) and you have your highest rated division champ host the game.

The benefit I see at this point is that we all pretty much assumed the Big East wasn't stable. Today's firing reinforces that assumption. The Big East is likely to look different in 2014 or 2015 than the incoming line-up we have. It is better to expand and give whatever happens out east plenty of options than have it looking it deeper into the south and southwest.

RE: yo arkstfan....conf. champ. game
The reasons I am absolutely for a championship game is twofold.

Hosting it at the highest ranked (by conf record, BCS, Sagarin, whatever the consensus is) team's stadium gives the conference a nationally televised game that SHOULD be heavily attended. It gets the faces and names all the programs out there to the high school kids that are trying to make a decision on where to attend. It should also bring in some money for the conference. So Recruiting and Revenue.

And, until the reputation of the conference improves, that extra victory may be the only way one of our schools has even a shot at an "At-Large" Bid.
Sure, they could stink it up and a 12-0 school could lay an egg against a 6-6er, making us all look bad.
But if one of our schools rolls in at 11-1, with their only loss a respectable game against an SEC school, and they defeat a 9-3 school who had similar success OOC, the now 12-1 school would have a legitimate shot at being invited to one of the premier bowls.
Further benefiting the entire conference.

It would still be a long shot probably. At least for a while.
But I think without the opportunity that the CCG gives our programs, it will take longer to improve the reputation of the conference.
And we miss out on a great way to showcase our schools.

I don't buy into this at all.

Arkansas State was 22 slots out of the BCS field but that was because we lost our first and third games. Southern Miss finished 9 slots out by losing two games. Houston finished 7 slots out by losing one game... the conference title game. No CUSA championship game last year and Houston is BCS bound. In 2008 Ball State was at the number (12) for BCS consideration (but unfortunately 3rd among potential busters). They lost the MAC title game and they were knocked out of the hunt.

Busting the BCS requires running the table. The Sun Belt's problem isn't reputation its that in 11 seasons we've not only never run the table, we've never had a one loss team, and have had only one two loss team.

Arkansas State received its first vote upon reaching 7-2 on November 5. Running the table, at worst would have drawn first vote two weeks earlier at 7-0 and maybe even as early as 5-0.

If the problem is reputation a championship game doesn't fix the problem, it means you play 9 games against lower regarded rather than 8 and there is a 50% chance the team you draw is one you've already beaten. If the voters aren't impressed that you beat Troy on the road why would they be impressed that you win the rematch on your field?

I don't think it would happen overnight either.

But if yall had beaten Illinois, waltzed into our CCG with only a loss to Virginia Tech, and beaten WKU in the CCG, yall would have cracked the top 25.
Which is a good step toward getting where we all want to be.

I think yall would have cracked the top 25 with a win in a CCG even with the Illinois loss.
