RE: Idaho AD now on Radio
Following is the gist of the Idaho AD's comments:
The Idaho AD sees four options, if you want to call them options
a. Idaho is committed to remaining an FBS school
-- More changes are to come for FBS schools and a door could open for Idaho yet
--- AQ status will go away
--- Big 5 conferences may split off and go their separate way
--- Big 12 may expand
--- Big East BB schools may yet split off
b. Idaho could end up in an FBS conference as FB only status
-- Splitting Idaho sports among two conferences is not ideal, but for survival it must be considered
-- It has been done before so it could happen again
c. FB independent status
d. Look at the current FCS structure and consider how it will evolve if potential changes noted under option 'a' above occurs
-- AD did not say Idaho was moving to an FCS conference . . AD did not say Idaho would not move to an FCS conference
If Idaho must put football in a conference far from Idaho to remain FBS then it must be done, but that option is not a good thing
-- All schools need regional travel to regional rivals
-- From a long-term perspective, fans will get used to watching their team play on TV at a location far from their home stadium . . this will negatively impact home attendance as fans will begin to follow their team on TV versus at their home stadium
To drop FB at Idaho has not been discussed
BCS TV money will increase from $100M plus to $600M or even up to $1B
-- How will that money be distributed
-- Everything occurring as to conference alignment is generated by greed
The Idaho AD remains optimistic
