We are nowhere near them now. I am just saying years down the road the potential is there as we are similar schools.

How you figure?

Well lets look at it this a way. USM has a history of playing OleMiss & MissSt, they have even played both in the same year and won against each if my memory serves me correctly. USM is good enought that they could beat either one of there instate big brothers.

GaSo has a history of playing Ga and also has GaTech on there future scheadule. Even though GaSo has never beat either one of them they are more likely to keep scheaduling GaSo if southern was to move up to the SunBelt since there is already a history of playing in the past.

All it would take is one victory over either Ga or GaTech by GaSo to increase the SunBelt Value within the state of Georgia.

Troy & South Alabama do not have this chance because I do not see either Auburn or Alabama every scheaduling a football game against them.

Tell me what other member of the SunBelt has a chance to play and beat big brother inside there state.

Guess who you won't be playing anymore if you move up to FBS?

UGA and Tech - they have no interest in helping you build an FBS program to compete with them for recruits (especially Tech since they run the same offense).

Oh, and in case you haven't noticed, there is a helluva big difference between UGA and the Mississippi SEC schools.

We are definitely not Southern Miss in any manner now.....just saying the potential is there years down the road.

So basically, GaSo is just like every other FCS school looking to move up - except your budget shows far less commitment to improving your programs.

Don't waste your time making market-based arguments to a GaSot, they are impervious to logic.

From there, the SBC Presidents will vote and more than likely add you. Until then, there is nothing anyone else can do. The ball is in your court.

That is the problem there is no way that any of us that post can know if this has or has not been done. But I would expect that this has already been done.

USM would probably be in... but they'd never leave CUSA for the SBC... lol!

1. Southern Miss will never ask for membership into the SB.
2. G. Southern is many light years behind USM that its not funny.

Those who are thinking about moving up better do so. After the dust settles here I think we are looking a another moratorium. Only I think they go 8-10 years this time.

And I don't mean in the days of yore, I mean recently.

No

Must have been UAB.

I vaguely remember Auburn giving another in state school a game.

Auburn played Samford in 2011, if that counts.

I see it talked about how many recruits come out of Georgia and how few of them sign with Georgia or Georgia Tech. But it isnt mentioned that the majority of these recruits go to other SEC, ACC, or Big East schools. Just because Ga So or Ga St moves up doesn't mean they can land any of these recruits. There will probably be just more Georgia recruits that go FBS because Ga St is still getting their same recruits, they just happen to be in a new division.

We have had pleny of recruits from GA for which our FCS satus was a deal-breaker. We will be getitng plenty of FBS-level recruits, but you are somewhat right in that they will be the ones who would have gone to SBC or CUSA schools (though we did get one this year who was being heavily recruited by an SEC team).

Honestly, USM, UAB, and ECU would be great additions to the Sun Belt. They fit in the geographic footprint already.

Actually, Memphis is also in the footprint. Maybe they could win a conference game or two... probably not. 03-shhhh

Let's face facts, it all comes down to money. Unless the Sun Belt offers more money for its members we will never get a member from a "bigger" conference to join.

I'm sure the MAC would welcome back Marshall. It would be tougher than the new CUSA.

That sounds exactly like something I would say.
