I don't believe it is a likely scenario unless the SEC has continued courting ACC schools and believes they are close to making it work. They sure couldn't get an ACC defect a few months ago.

If they make this move, their Travel budget will be horrible, plus how will that be used for leverage to get into the SEC? This looks like a stupid move in my book.

If Clemson and FSU leave then the Big East is arguably a better football conference. Houston, Boise, and SMU alone likely have more ranked finishes than everyone else in the ACC together.

My theory is that it only makes sense if someone else (VaTech? NCState?) is close to bailing to the SEC. If that were the case then Big XII makes more sense maybe than a depleted ACC.

If the TV deal comes out close to the rumored/reported 30 million PER TEAM, then I'd say it's a pretty solid move.

The leverage is that both schools have been linked to the SEC in the past. If they move to the Big XII it will probably come with an even bigger exit fee, so if the SEC wants them, they need to take them now.

There are still solid programs in the ACC, most notably Virginia Tech. Miami should be back, Georgia Tech is an above average program, North Carolina has improved lately and don't forget incoming Pitt.
Nevermind that if the ACC wants to get back to 14 they can always go ahead and add Rutgers and UCONN, neither one great football programs, but it would certainly hurt the Big East.

I still dont think realignment is finished at all. I think thats part of the reason that while the SBC wont talk about it, that we will end up adding 2 more teams. Protection of assets in case CUSA comes calling again.

Travel budgets are really important to the non-AQ conferences....I'm not sure the AQ conferences are worried about it.

If the dominoes fell to the point that the Big East FINALLY takes ECU and maybe USM (after all, the Big East finally took Memphis and C-USA finally took La Tech), what's to keep us from being in a position to take a couple of teams from C-USA? Who would we take? We'd have several choices: UNT, FIU, UAB, UTSA, and Tulane come to mind.

The problem is just like it has always been.....all of the remaining SBC programs would be on their knees begging to get into a scab of a CUSA. Even if it were better for them to stay together and pick off other conferences remnants they would still be on their knees.

I think the reality of it all is, merely because of perception, that current SBC teams would still want to join CUSA over staying in the SBC.
