Sun Belt Baseball
I know Sun Belt baseball is having an off year, but baseball is one of the main reasons why I'm excited to join the belt. Curious, how is Georgia State baseball? Or expansion candidates App and Southern?

And what do facilities look like at each belt school?

Here's TXST -

RE: Sun Belt Baseball
GSU is having a down year, but UNT doesnt play baseball, so any kind of average year by GSU still helps the league.

We need Texas State to replace FIU, who has been one of our consistant NCAA threats. If you guys come in and produce a top 75 RPI immediately, then we'll never miss FIU.

The challenge you guys will have is adjusting to playing so many games out of state. Ive been perusing through Southland team schedules and teams like Lamar play an average of 8-10 games out of state all year. Im assuming Texas State is the same. In the SBC, 4-5 road series a year will be out of state.

That being said, I think you guys will enjoy getting to play a league that has generally been one of the strongest mid major leagues out there. We're way down this year, but no one expects that to continue.

MT used to be good at baseball. Then we built a posh new stadium, and have sucked ever since.

Troy is always really good. We were ranked #20 for most the season last year. We suck this year...

ASU has traditionally been near the bottom of the league. However, we hired a new coach 4 years ago and have really worked to improve the program. We have 3 more conference tourney victories in the last 2 years then we did in the 10 years before that.

This year we've made great strides and are currently in 2nd in the league standings. If we hadnt placed no emphasis at all on midweek games because of depth, we might be on the NCAA bubble. Instead, we're just playing for SBC Tourney seeding.

The Sun Belt, until this year, has been consistently rated ahead of the Southland.

We've had multiple bids to the NCAA tournament for at least the last 20 years. That will come to an end this season.

I'm very familiar with TSU and you'll replace FIU nicely. In fact, as a baseball guy, that was the selling point (for me) to you guys joining the Sun Belt.

This year the Sun Belt has plenty of good young players. It's also had the most injuries of any season I can remember.

South is having a bit of a down year.

Kittrell retired and coaching changes are tough. But Calvi is a good replacement.
I expect us to get back in the swing of things and be ready to welcome yall to legendary Stanky Field.

This is not only a DOWN year for South, but so far this year our winning percentage (40%) is our WORST winning percentage since our very first season in 1965. This season has shaped up to be one of the worst in our all-time history, and if the percentages hold up this will be our second worst season ever (again second only to our inaugural season).

Ga Southern has a very strong baseball program.

- We are top 40 in attendance the past few seasons.
- SoCon champs 2 of last 3 years
- New baseball facility
- 2 college world series appearances
- Preseason two top 10 draft picks. No other school had two in the top 10.

Appalachian was terrible in baseball for many years, but we've turned it around at last. This will be our 6th consecutive winning season and we've finally turned the corner and appear headed to the NCAA Regionals. As of now, we are 32-10 overall, 16-5 SoCon, #27 RPI.

Our stadium is very small (seats 1K) but is only 5 years old. We play on field turf due to the weather in Boone and just renovated the locker room and added an indoor hitting facility. The baseball and football team both use an indoor practice facility as well.

GA Southern has an excellent baseball history and would be much better this year if they did not lose their best player very early in the season. Even in a down year, they are still top 100.

I wrote my weekly series preview for our series this weekend, and you guys had the most confusing stats I had ever seen. a .330 conference average and a .275 overall average? 3 starters with 5+ era's and the reigning pitcher of the week?

What did you do decide to take all nonconference play off?

Essentially, yes. Our depth is atrocious so we basically throw mid-week games in an effort to win conference games. The once exception to this has been Southern Miss and I am more than happy to ruin their RPI.
