NT and the Belt took a lot of grief over senting a 5-7 team to a bowl but I still find it strange that anyone would think changing the rules in the middle of the game is a better solution. Also who knows for sure that NT wouldn't have still be the representative. If you followed NT footall, you would know that NT sure didn't expend a lot of effort in that non-conference loss to Troy in the last regular season game of the year. Dickey was more concerned with injuries than a 6-6 record, something that would have definitely been different if that game meant a bowl game.

Ancient history, and the Belt did the right thing.

Can I dispute it because UNT didn't win 26 straight conference games? It was actually 22. And the Belt actually sent a 5-6 UNT to the NO Bowl. They lost, and dropped to 5-7.

Yes, NT was 5-6 going to the bowl which changes what? Obviously, if NT had beat Troy they would have been 6-6 than no issue.

What it changed was the ncaa rules on bowl eligibility...that's all.

You can, but you'd be wrong.

North Texas lost their first ever Sun Belt Conference football game on October 6th, 2001. After that, the Mean Green went 26 straight conference games without a loss.

2001 (5) - MTSU, ASU, NMSU, ULL, Idaho
2002 (6) - ASU, ULL, ULM, Idaho, NMSU, MTSU
2003 (7) - ULL, Idaho, Utah State, MTSU, ULM, ASU, MTSU
2004 (7) - MTSU, Utah State, NMSU, ULM, ULL, Idaho, ASU
2005 (1) - MTSU

The streak ended on October 4th, 2005. For 26 consecutive games spanning 1459 days... North Texas won every single conference game.

In the history of SBC football, here are the longest conference winning streaks for each other team:

Troy - 14
ASU - 8
MTSU - 7
ULL - 6
FAU, WKU - 5
FIU, ULM - 4

Only Troy has even gotten within a dozen of the North Texas streak. No other team has even made it 1/3rd of the way there.

No rules have changed as far as I know. NCAA had to grant NT and the Belt a waiver to send a 5-6 team to the NO Bowl which they did because NT earned the right to be there.

I have no idea what any of this has to do with conference realignment.
