There are only two obvious candidates right now (Ga. Southern and App State) and a case can be made for NMSU (which I think is a bit far), but beyond that I think we can wait and see if candidates develop which are a fit across the board. Plus, Id like to let our upgrading teams season and mature if we can.

I like App St. & Ga. So. as adds, both have great upside . . . It's only an opinion, but I think the Belt can handle 12 to 14 FB schools easily, like to see at least 12

I think Appy State and Ga Southern are no-brainers for you guys. They certainly fit better into your geographical footprint than freakin' NMSU.

We got 2 markets in TxState and GAState.

Now lets get some good quality in AppState and GA South.

The stigma of adding FCS schools is gone since every confrence other then the big 6 is doing it this go around.

Owl - You got more than a market w/TX ST - - You got a QUALITY University, academically and athletically. No knock on you or anyone else, but we're more than a "foothold" in TX.

This is the way I see it. CUSA wants to choose markets over quality teams, then let them play their game and the Sunbelt Conference will play ours. Lets get proven winners into our conference.

Eastern
South Alabama
Troy
Middle Tennessee
WKU
*Appalachain State
Georgia State
* Georgia Southern
Florida Atlantic

These two teams would come in and compete right away.
We need quality programs in the sunbelt. If I were the commish I wouldn't even mess with markets, we need to beat their a$$ on the field.

I personally think AppState and Georgia Southern would kick the snot out of FIU and North Texas.

I would love to see Missouri State get in. Lets put teams that would make it a better conference.

There is a reason I posted the SBC-16.

The SBC is at a crossroads. It is the same crossroads that the WAC(R.I.P.) faced in 2004/2005.

Their choice, as is ours, was to ensure survivability through expansion or retreat into protectionism. They chose to not go big, and that rotten carcass you drove by on your way home from work yesterday is what is left of the WAC.

We have to expand big enough to give SBC members not selected by other conferences options for survival.

The key to making a large conference work is in having 2 regionally distinct divisions. This is what was put forth by Benson in 2005 and shot down by the WAC presidents. This is what I am proposing we do now. We should have a Southeastern region division and a Southwestern region division.

I would Prefer LAMAR over Oral Roberts for the West. It would improve the geographic footprint in the West and bring in a solid recruiting stop near Houston, also known as the "Golden Triangle" of college football Recruiting
Also, Lamar is a pretty good basketball program and has Coach Knight as their head basketball coach. Rumor was they almost received an invite to the WAC.

#1 Demographic. Ever looked at a population density map of the US?

Population drops off quite a bit past Missouri.

That means that colleges (which are a function of population) are fewer and further between out west. Whereas here in the southeast colleges are basically on every corner.

#2 Cultural. Football is part of the culture in the Southeast and college football in particular.

In the Southeast there are a large supply of teams that would jump at the chance to be in the Sunbelt.

I find it hard to believe that we could exhaust the entire supply of potential candidates.

Not all of those candidates will be attractive. But it is very difficult for me to fathom us having the same survival situation that the WAC faced. There will always be enough schools that want that slot to get the Sunbelt back up to 8 in football..

New Mexico State and Idaho are bad football teams and horribe geographic fits. There is no reason to add them. Period.

16 teams in the Sunbelt divides our NCAA bid and bowl tie ins. It divides revenues and will not change our TV deal. The survival of the SUn Belt is not in question and therefore not a justification for that monstrosity.

I do like the "SBC-16" or Just "SBC". It has a nice ring to it. Like SEC, ACC, and PAC. The SBC conference. The "SBC-10" or "SBC-12".
