Show Me the Money...SBC to Get More College Football Money

This is all educated speculation of course, but once the WAC is eliminated as an FBS football conference the SBC will see an increase in its share of college football money. Come 2013 we are projected to realize an increase of $750,000. Then, once the new playoff format is approved, the SBC is expected to realize a material increase in its share of the football money. In 2011-2012, the SBC received about $2.64M from the BCS. Under the new format, if the percentages remain the same, in 2014 we are projected to receive $6.6M.

If we are at 12 football members at that time, that would breakdown into a share of $550,000 per member. There is a chance that, in order to keep us from filing suit, the "non-AQ" conferences' shares could be greater as the big conferences are expected to receive $44M per league, which is up from the $22.3M they currently receive. Should they agree to take $40M each, that could be another $20M to be split amongst the SBC, CUSA, the MAC and MWC, or another $5M per league.

Of course it will all come down to behind the scenes negotiations. However, $11.6M to the SBC is just south of $1M per league member. Add onto that a potential TV deal where we can get at least $400K per member and we are not doing too bad...if App. State, UNCC and Ga. Southern passed that up they would be crazy.
