Kawaun Jakes - 4 Ints in the last 8 games last year...
How does that compare to your QB?
Among next year's 8 returning starters Jakes has:
The second lowest completion percentage(on the second lowest number of attempts)
The second lowest number of TDs
The second worst TD/INT ratio
And he's going to somehow get better without Rainey who not only took a tremendous amount of pressure off the passing game, but also accounted for 24% of his completions, 21% of his passing yards, and 40% of his TDs?
And yet, WKU still managed to win 7 out of the last 8 games with such a horrible QB. How did your season go?
Yes, funny what handing off to one of the greatest running backs in the history of the conference can do for a sub-par quarterback.
Besides which, this thread is about WKU and what they're going to do in 2012, not what Middle Tennessee did in 2011 or will do in 2012. If we went 0-12 in 2011 and repeated that in 2012, it wouldn't make my point any less valid. One has nothing to do with the other. You just don't like the fact that I'm illustrating how WKU's 2012 title hopes are slim to none with Jakes under center so you're throwing MT's disappointing season in my face.
Jakes was dreadful when he was bad and mediocre at best, he had one above average performance in 2011 and that was against a decent North Texas squad.
Unless Jakes gets beaten out by a better quarterback, you aren't winning the conference this year. If your defense is as good as you expect and you're running game doesn't drop off too far, you may manage another winning season, but Jakes cannot lead a team to a conference title, and he won't be able to lead an offense that will be able to keep up with the prolific offenses we'll see in the Belt in 2012.
I expect MT to take a step forward in 2012 and WKU to take a step back. Maybe, I'm overly optimistic about my squad, but I have no reason to diminish Jakes. Save this thread, if you wish, bump it every time Jakes throws for 300 yards or 3 TDs and no INTs, or wins offensive POW, but I stand by what I said, Jakes is incapable of leading a team to a conference title, perhaps you'll have another winning season in spite of him, but I have my doubts about that as well.
