Since this was brought up in another thread, I though a primer might help a few of our non-lacrosse bretheren.
Lacrosse is an old Iroquois Indian game played to teach warfare to the young. The game is now played on a field the size of a football field and is similar to hockey in that the goal is within the field of play, or rather, play can go on 360 degrees around the goal.
It is fast paced, full speed sprints, cuts and switches between offense and defense quickly. The ball move as fast as any pitcher can throw. Also, it is as violent as football in that you can body check, stick check and simply beat the crap put of your opponent - well, almost.
The best thing about lacrosse is that you do not need to be freakishly huge to play. Average size people dominate the sport because you have to be an all-around athlete to be good. Big guys cannot run fast enough or cut; tall guys cannot make the sharpest of turns and quick changes in direction. This is great because we love our football players to be fast and strong and we love our hoops guys to be long and lanky.

Also, check out Syracuse, Virgina, Duke, Princeton, Johns-Hopkins, Cornell, Hobart, Maryland, UNC (OK, you do NOT have to check them out), Harvard, Yale, Army and Navy. You will see outstanding teams. Look at their rosters and their sizes, and then look into their academics. Most lacrosse players are very good students, bringing back the "Student" in student-athlete.
