Out of all the times that JSU has been mentioned it is only Troy fan that downs the idea.
Troy is not scared of JSU. As far as a winning program, they didn't beat us from 95 until we stopped playing them again when we joined the Sunbelt. They still say "Whup Troy!" on campus and why, I don't know. I know many of instructors and teachers up there and they have always told me they wanted to be TROY....went even as far as to remodel their press box like ours.

Oh yeah, Jax State has a terrible inferiority complex when it comes to us. They are obsessed with Troy up there. What is sad is we have completely forgotten about them and they can't get over us.

I'm going to preface this by saying the only reason I think this is because I am a USA fan and do not want any more FBS programs in the state. This is a completely selfish opinion and I do not care about whatever contributions JState could make to the Sun Belt.

We aren't scared of Jax St. We have tried to schedule them. They won't come to Troy unless we give them a return trip.

We schedule them in everything but football- and the ball is in their court. They just don't want to admit that we are above them by playing at our place w/out a return trip.

Yep. The fact of the matter is we ARE better and above them, we're FBS and they are FCS, not to mention we win titles and bowl games. We will not travel to an FCS stadium to play. If they want a game with us in football they can come to us, take their whoopin', and go home with a check.

You Troy fans are ridiculous. JSU would never want to look like TROY, and the reason why we still say "Whup TROY" is because we 'whupped" your ass in football almost every year until we went D1. Truly, it's been a long tradition for JSU to whup your ass, and we like to relive the glory days of doing so...as to why we say it. Cry all you want to, and be scared that we might come and interrupt your little break from JSU. Fact is, your school did a great job of getting your program to where it is now, but once we come into your division, and your conference, you won't be talkin' smack too much longer. Funny that whenever Jax State is mentioned it's the Troy fans that come out saying crap that sounds like it's coming from a 2nd grader. The Ga State fans, USA fans, Ga Southern fans, and UAB fans are all very cordial with us. It seems by the tone of your posts you still believe there is a threat there...just man up and admit it.

Whup Troy!

Really enjoyed playing Jax State the last two years; not to mention the short trip from Atlanta.

RE: Another look at Jax State
One more thing...there have been some really nice comments on here about Jax State, so thank you to those who believe we would add something to the Sun Belt. We really don't know what the time table is for us to do anything, or make a move, but we are trying to update the facilities before we make a major push. The stadium is very nice and seats over 24,000 + the suites, but it is very true that our basketball arena is the equivalent of playing in a high school gynamsium. The arena thing has to be addressed and will be soon. The baseball complex just needs stadium seating, new scoreboard, and concessions and it will be good.

Jacksonville is halfway between the Atlanta and Birmingham markets. The avg attendance is over 17k and ranks #12 in FCS, and the University enrollment is probably lower than most in the Sun Belt, not sure, but the consulting firm that worked with JSU's search committee personally told me that the Sun Belt likes JSU and that JSU was on track in making upgrades to their facilities...he did not say that there was an offer coming and also said that JSU does need to make a point to have a direct vision for the Sun Belt...

I respect JSU. We were rivals all up until the time the we left you behind.

Bitter rivals talk **** about each other.

Quit crying.

Why don't JSU sack up and come play us in football? We would love for you guys to come back to town and take another beating. It would be a great atmosphere.

Jax State is not a real candidate.

Schools Jax is behind:

La Tech
Texas State
UTSA
Charlotte
App State
Georgia Southern
Missouri State

I might even take Lamar before Jax State.

I'd rather go out of footprint for one of the Virginia schools.

Within this thread there were Troy, Middle Tennessee, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, South Alabama and Missouri State fans all "downing" the idea.

Lol.....Jacksonville is between the Birmingham and Atlanta markets reference....

Does that mean Troy get's to claim Montgomery and Dothan? Heck, isn't Troy Dothan one of the biggest if not the biggest university facility in that city and less than a hour from Troy? And same with Troy Montgomery less than a hour and you have AUM, Alabama St, then Troy.

RE: Another look at Jax State
I was wondering when a Gamecock fan would finally show up.

Here are the facts:

- It's been YEARS since JSU beat Troy in football.
- Yall don't add anything to the Sun Belt that we do not already have.
- You will never move up to the FBS level because a.) you must have an invite from an FBS Conference and b.) the Sun Belt is not interested.
- If Jax State wanted to play Troy they could. We've offered them a chance to come down and play Inside the Walls. they don't seem to realize that as an FCS program they are not on equal footing as us now and we aren't going to return the trip to a 1-AA program.

Jax State fans hold on to missplaced pride and feel they should be given respect my Troy fans because years ago we were rivals and prior to the FCS days the game was competitive. However, we don't feel the same way. Troy fans who are too young to actually remember the "rivalry" know nothing about it. No one in Troy talks about it so the younger generation of fans have never heard about it. That right there should tell you something about how we feel about JSU. They still use our name in a cheer, we don't even acknowledge they exist.

Jax State fans just need to face the facts, we left yall in the dust. Sorry your administration was lazy and didn't show the initiative we did. Our program has prospered while yours has floundered at the FCS level. Tough ****.

Yeah. Me too. I honestly had no idea that I was kicking the proverbial hornets nest when I made the original suggestion.

It has been entertaining though. 05-stirthepot

I'm a bit dissapointed I wasn't mentioned on their board. I think I've made it pretty clear I am anti-UAB and anti-Jax State. the UAB folks know about me, apparently the Gamecock faithful haven't wised up yet. 03-lmfao

Actually, the real problem is one of media coverage. Yes, there are 200,000 people in Anniston/Gadsden. But.... No television stations are there. At best, in whatever media market JAX claims its' in, you will be no better than the fourth most covered team in that market. And that wouldn't change even if you made the jump to FBS. Perhaps if the TV station on JAX State's campus moved away from Jesus programming and combined a local newscast with commercial programming, then at least there'd be one station that covered you guys that people watched. Again, not your fault, but I don't see you guys getting any media exposure outside of two newspapers. Unless UAB drops football, that isn't going to change.

Troy is tertiary in Montgomery (behind Alabama and Auburn). They could actually be primary in Dothan and SE Alabama as there isn't anyone else there. And unlike Gadsden/Anniston, Dothan has its' own media.

USA is the one and only institution playing D-1 sports on the Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida Gulf Coasts. The university is relevant and heavily covered throughout in the Mobile-Pensacola TV market. And since much of our student population comes from Mississippi, we can try to grow into the Biloxi-Gulfport market as well.
