We could not care less if Jax State fans think about us. We are an FBS program who wins Conference titles and bowl games. The fact that an FCS programs' fans don't think about us is of no importance.

As far as the bands go, you're right. We DO have the best in the State, maybe two of the best in the Southeast. I know the Sound of the South is incredible and we always get compliments from the SEC fans when we travel.

Our current band rival is MTSU's Band of Blue. That is always a good one at the Palladium Game.

Saw them back in the 90's...They were good.

I gotta say that I thought you and I were gaining some respect for each other, which is still true, but I saw your post over on the Troy forum, which I just visited for the 1st time ever, and I found this statement...

..."the funniest thing to me personally about Jax State is this: they still use our name in a cheer, while our younger generation of fans have no idea they were ever a rival. their fanbase is still obsessed with Troy while we don't even acknowledge their existence..."

If this is true then why all the "WHUP JAX STATE" signatures from everyone over there? I thought we weren't acknowledged?

Oh sure you and I are establishing respect for one another, but that doesn't mean I respect Jacksonville State.

As far as the "Whup Jax State" signatures, I hardly think "everyone" has them. I believe two folks have 'em and those two are members of the Sound from long ago.

If you go to Troy's campus and ask students about Jax State you will get either a blank stare or a shug. The only people who even realize we used to be rivals are the die hards on GTT who have been around since the rivalry was still going. So my post over there was accurate, our younger generation of fans know nothing about yall and don't even acknowledge yalls existence.

Jax State is an afterthought.

edit: Oh, and I have never actually heard someone at Troy say "Whup Jax State."

Honest question.

If were an after thought then why is the the word Troy automatically causes fury with Jax fans. We also had rivalries with West Alabama once upon a time but we moved on from them also when we moved up. It's no different then how the New Big East teams will treat conference USA teams in the future. Ten years from now Houston vs Rice might be a payday game in the middle of the season.

And next questions you will never see a Troy fan act like a UAB fan who thinks they are above people because of a market. But is it wrong for the school to have moved on? I read some of the post on your board and it seems like a lot of you are stuck in this "well we used to do this and we used to do that mindset" Like I said Troy used to be rivals with West Alabama and like Jax it would hurt our profile to consider either "rivals" anymore. It's not personal it's business, how many FBS schools have a FCS rival besides Temple (that's a special case with Villanova)

RE: Another look at Jax State
Who really gives a damn about Jax State? Anyone here?

Realistically, what would Jax State bring to this conference? Nothing of value.

Hell Greg, when I first attended Troy in '05 I had never heard of Jax State and after spending four years there I never once heard anyone even mention Jax State. And I'm not just saying that to be a dick; I mean that not once, in four years, did I hear the name Jax State.

This frustration mainly stems from fans of every single FCS school swamping our boards. Not so much because it is Jax State. I never had any experience with the rivalry and I could not care less about that school, or many of the others being "pimped" here.

Same here. I got there in 2003 and never heard a thing about the Gamecocks. The only reason I know they existed was because they had a booth at a college day I attended while I was in highschool.

The reason I hate them is because their fans constantly claim they are our equals when they are not.

I will answer your questions in another post, as I have to hit it...but If JSU were the ones who moved up back then, and Troy did not, then JSU would also probably leave the rival stuff behind and never look back, but JSU's band will always keep the Troy stuff around due to the respect of the old days, I believe... Let's face it, truth be told that there is some arrogance in both programs, so I get it. Why waste your time worrying, or trying to keep up a rivalry, when the other programs stays behind? You shouldn't... When we beat Ole Miss people were ready to move up that day, but the gravity of what was ahead has made most people at JSU really think about moving up too fast.

Trolls view. Dumbasses ride Buffalo's...

Dumbasses think Jax has any shot whatsoever at entrance to FBS through any conference not named the Sun Belt or perhaps the ridiculous WAC-East that's occasionally bandied about.

Do people on your board really think CUSA or the Big East are even remotely a possibility? Or is that the only dufus?

The FBS is a real possibility, but JSU will move when the time is right. CUSA and the Big East are not mentioned usually. I will be the one laughing in a couple years.

Let me be perfectly clear here. JSU has zero chance of getting an invite from CUSA or the Big East. There is no maybe, there is no if, there is no question or wiggle room. There is less than a snowball's chance in hell. Anyone, and I mean anyone, who believe Jax State has any chance whatsoever at the Big East needs to have a psychiatric evaluation. I don't believe a single FCS school has a shot at going straight to the Big East with the exception of Nova and most the Big East football members don't even want to see that. In case I haven't been clear, the Big East and Jax State shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence, unless discussing OOC schedules.

In regards to CUSA, what's the number one thing that's been keeping La Tech out of CUSA? Market. Ruston is nearly double the size of Jacksonville. JSU might be the prime example of the antithesis of the CUSA model. JSU has zero shot at CUSA.

The conference JSU makes the most sense in is the Sun Belt, JSU isn't a terrible candidate, but there are other candidates who are better and others who are just as good who won't face any opposition. I don't know if the Troy and USA administration will oppose JSU, but if they do it's going to be difficult for you guys to get an invite. The working relationships with the conference are pretty good and I expect that if Troy and/or USA decided to oppose that the rest of the conference would listen unless we were just out of options, which seems unlikely.

The WAC-east would be the path of least resistance, but if that's going to happen, it needs to happen soon because the WAC may just not exist too much longer.

RE: Another look at Jax State
I never said anything about the CUSA or Big East being a possibility for Jax State. I simply said that they are not mentioned on our boards, usually, because I was asked. Big Fan, on our board, gave an opinion on conferences he would like to see Jax State become a part of. I'm not speaking for him, but I know him well enough to believe he was just giving an opinion. I don't even give those 2 a second thought... I've only ever said that the Sun Belt told JSU that they would be a nice fit, but the upgrades needed to be done before any serious offer was made.

You gotta understand that the afterthought comment is regarding the newer generation that doesn't know anything about the JSU/Troy tradition. I think JPSousa summed it up pretty good.

The ones who still say "Whup Troy" are:
1. The alumni, like myself, from before 1990 when the last regular conference game was played. There have been other games, but I believe that 1990 was the last GSC game played. This group is very passionate about JSU's history and also believe that great memories are worth holding onto. That old rivalry is still treasured. Even though a couple games were played after 1990 newer students didn't "get it" when we played you guys again, but the band kept it going because the two single biggest aspects of the rivalry were the football games and the bands.
2. The Marching Southerners .... they still say it because it is more of a tribute to the SOTS for being a very good nationally known band, like JSU's. Those two bands are the best in the state, best in the Southeast, and probably two of the best in the country. I will say that JSU's drumline is one of the best in the nation, and many guys from all over the country go there just to play in that drumline.

About Rice and a payday game....maybe in 100 years, but hell, all they need is a complete make over and they're in it.

On the other question: I get it on the moving up thing and leaving the rivalry behind. I said before that had it been JSU we would have dropped it too, but not the band...it's part of the tradition. Just because we built a bigger stadium doesn't mean that we should expect FBS teams to come play us, and we know that. I also stated that I was unaware of any FBS teams going to play FCS schools. Having said that, if there is an FBS school that will play an FCS school, away, like Temple does, then why wouldn't Troy ever do the it? I know the answer, but some just have a hard time accepting that Troy wants nothing to do with FCS away games. That's where JSU feels that Troy is arrogant, but when you peel away the emotions what you have is that it is a business, and it's not too hard to figure out that a payout to play you guys wouldn't be much and there would be zero payout to play us away. Nobody makes money...

We've moved past wanting to play you guys until we can be invited in an FBS conference. Actually, we're playing 2 SEC teams this year and we believe we'll play respectively, but the real reason why we're playing SEC teams is for exposure, drawing talent, and getting that paycheck baby.... I remember when you guys started playing the big boys, and I respected Troy for that...took a beating in some games and played very well in others.

good post. honest assessment and realistic.

you could pretty much change out wku and eku with troy and jax in that post and it would be exactly the same.

when western was talking about moving up there were many in the state complaining that it would end the wku/eku games which was the premier in state battle long before uk and louieville became a contrived rivalry.

but that series ended for every reason you stated in your post.

i'd almost venture that the animosity between western and eastern was worse than the jax/troy rivalry.

Out of all the times that JSU has been mentioned it is only Troy fan that downs the idea.
Troy is not scared of JSU. As far as a winning program, they didn't beat us from 95 until we stopped playing them again when we joined the Sunbelt. They still say "Whup Troy!" on campus and why, I don't know. I know many of instructors and teachers up there and they have always told me they wanted to be TROY....went even as far as to remodel their press box like ours.

I wanted to come back to you and politely tell you that your last sentence here is incorrect. With all due respect. It just so happens to be that the same group that built yours, built ours...the press boxes needed to stay within a certain budget for both, and we both received what we paid for.

It had NOTHING to do with wanting to be like Troy. I promise.04-cheers

when western was talking about moving up there were many in the state complaining that it would end the wku/eku games which was the premier in state battle long before uk and louieville became a contrived rivalry.

but that series ended for every reason you stated in your post.

i'd almost venture that the animosity between western and eastern was worse than the jax/troy rivalry.

I can see your point. EKU fans have told us the very same thing you just did. JSU and EKU have become somewhat rivals recently. The games have been close...ahh hemmm...too close.
