The emerging Louisiana football program and the Cajun attendance figures are the elephants in the room that everybody discussing realignment pretends not to notice and hopes will just go away.

It makes me laugh.
People discussing realignment and ignoring UL-L shouldn't concern you. I don't see what you find funny about it, but if laughing about it makes you feel better, then I understand. You should, however, be concerned by the fact that the commissioners of the MWC and CUSA are ignoring you. This fact indicates just how bad the conference situation is for UL-L. UNT and FIU will be leaving for CUSA. MT could join them soon. UL-L isn't going anywhere. I don't think you'll be laughing much in a year or two.

OK...let's talk then. Let's look at the fact that the only reason CUSA is even sniffing around your backside is because you are in a dying conference(brilliant move by the way) within which you were the butt of every travel joke. You were a western team in the Big East before it was cool. No one will miss you. That's the only reason...you draw nothing...Tech's budget is nothing. No posturing from Davison is gonna make all that go away. CUSA knows that. It's why all reports have FIU and UNT in...and Tech scrapping it out with UTSA, MTSU, and UNCC for a spot that probably won't be there until all the financial mess is sorted out.

So there it is...CUSA would rather step on the Sun Belt's toes...and invite FIU and UNT...over your sorry carcass. That sucks. And you guys were so close this time. It all fell into place...your poor choices finally put you in a position to back into a good conference...and you can't even get that right. It's not LOUISIANA fans that need to take a good long look in the mirror...it's you yokels up at Polytechnical that need to take some time and soul search for a bit.

Getting ignored by the MergAlliance doesn't bother me. Hell it doesn't even phase me. Why? Because it means nothing. This whole CUSA/MWC disaster is all predicated on the search for short money. The quick buck. How do I make as much money as humanly possible in a short period of time? The answer to that...grab markets and sell it to a network as a massive media opportunity to put butts in the Nielsen seats. Tech doesn't fulfill that requirement...neither does UL or Arkansas State. Should they be inviting all three? Yes. But I'm not in charge. I wouldn't make them much money in the short term, but long term I would guarantee them a return.

The MergAlliance can't cripple the Sun Belt...they can try but there are enough hungry programs looking to cash in on FBS athletics that we can just reload with more programs that will eventually become viable FBS programs. We have done it before, we can do it again. That's the problem with CUSA...they are like the Houston Astros...no farm system...just offering monster contracts to so/so free agents that never pan out, or leave when a better offer comes along. Sun Belt is like the Texas Rangers...leave for free agency...go ahead...we have more lined up to fill your spot just as well if not better than what you did.

I like our position. Losing FIU and UNT...small potatoes. Anyone who thinks this is crippling the SBC is fooling themselves. UNT doesn't even play baseball and FIU was always one of the geographical oddities that drew next to nothing. I would rather them stay and see the SBC through, it would do them more good than chasing the short money. But I'm not a University president. We get a chance to tighten out regional footprint. Georgia State is on deck to take FIU's place. Texas State will step right in and we won't miss a beat without UNT. In fact, I cannot wait for Texas State baseball to be a part of the SBC. That makes the whole conference that much better. And their football stadium is nice too.

So the question is...what will Tech do when CUSA decides not to go back to 12? They have no legal requirement to do so. They have their two bell cows picked out already and UTEP wants their exit fee candy before they move west. We have a home for you. If you want it. You can go at it alone as an Independent and be prideful...or you can join the conference you should have been in a long time ago. Like Marcellus Wallace said..."**** pride...pride only hurts...it never helps." You stay classy Tech fans. 2014 and 2015 UL will be laughing...with W's from stomping Tech into the ground like the red headed step child they are. Fin.

I think your baseball comparisons are a bit off, C-USA has been better than us the entire time we've been a conference, granted in the past five years or so the gap is not nearly as big as their fans like to think, but they're still the better conference. And I'd say comparing us to the back to back AL champs is a bit generous...

I completely understand your point, and even agree with it, but here's the problem there are no ECU's or USM's out there for C-USA to add. The last time we expanded we added a small market team with tradition of winning and a good fan base, Marshall. If there were any schools available on the level Marshall was I feel certain they'd be added. If the success level and attendance level are close then the tie breaker is going to be market, whether I like it or not. There isn't a Sun-Belt schools who has consistently and clearly stood out in both those areas.

meh... the core group of CUSA is still better than the core group of the Sun Belt and I fail to see how CUSA taking some of the best programs from the Sun Belt is going to change that.

And let me stop you before you bring up UNT's fall in football or lack of baseball. They appear to be on an upswing in football and that new stadium certainly isn't going to hurt that effort and they're usually one of the top finishers in the Buba's cup and have one of the higher budgets in the conference.

FIU isn't as strong as an overall program, but clearly losing their football and baseball will hurt the conference.

If MT is included, you've lost the top overall program and one of the top budgets.

If those three are lost the top budget in the conference may be Georgia State...

I just don't see the Sun Belt passing CUSA, it's a nice thought, and maybe if we all banded together and decided to stick it out in the Sun Belt, it could happen, but for starters that's not going to happen because no one is turning down the invite and even if it did I think it will be a long time before anyone in the Sun Belt is viewed in the way Southern Miss or ECU are.

Well I never said that the SBC was flat out better. What I said was....the SBC has a favorable setup as compared to how CUSA is setup for the long term. It's entirely possible that the SBC can outpace CUSA in the future. I'm sure people said the same thing about the SBC passing the MAC.

RE: Someone please explain this goofy alliance
For the Sun-Belt to pass C-USA every Sun-Belt member would have to be willing to turn down a C-USA invite and continue to grow together and put C-USA in a tough position. That's just not going to happen though. I can't say that every Sun-Belt member would take a C-USA invite, although I suspect all would. Competition wise C-USA isn't a huge step up, in fact if we are just talking purely about on the field the best of the Sun-Belt match up well with the best of C-USA in football. Of course on the field means almost nothing in conference realignment.

I'd say it's hardly an established or accepted fact that we've passed the MAC. I think we have, but not by much, and with our perception as bad as it is we need to put some real distance between us and them before most will recognize that.

Correction, I want Middle Tenn in Conference USA so I don't want the Sun Belt to pass it 04-cheers

I'm not pushing for anything. I'm pro Sun Belt, but saying that I think MT would or should pass on an invite from C-USA would be disingenuous. Also as an objective sports fan, saying the Sun Belt is going to pass C-USA would be disingenuous. The budgets are higher, the revenues are higher, and the fact of the matter is they're inviting us to their conference, not the other way around. There is not a school in the conference that would turn down an invite, sorry if a dose of reality breaks up the rah rah party.

I'm all for the Sun Belt, really like it here, like the other schools, like the fan bases, love this board, but I want whats best for MT and C-USA would be a good move for us.

Fin.
You are delusional, but I understand. It must be very upsetting when your school is not one of the SBC schools that the Alliance has shown any interest in.

Competition wise C-USA isn't a huge step up, in fact if we are just talking purely about on the field the best of the Sun-Belt match up well with the best of C-USA in football. Of course on the field means almost nothing in conference realignment.

Let's say USM and ECU get Big 12 or Big East bids...then where is CUSA compared to the Sun Belt. That's a massive drop off, and a very real possibility.

Sure if somehow both were gone you'd be right, but both aren't going to be gone anytime soon if ever.

The only way it gets even sorta bad is if CUSA takes FIU, UNT, and MTSU and WKU bails for the MAC. Even then we survive without going to Idaho.

Arkansas State
Louisiana
Monroe
Troy
USA
FAU
Texas State
Georgia State
UTSA, LaTech, Georgia Southern, or Charlotte
App State

If MTSU and WKU stick then we are in very good position.

Your true feelings about this situation are coming out. First you say you want no part of what you called the MergAlliance, yet you accuse me of having visions of grandeur for wanting to be a part of it. It is obvious that you are bitter about UL-L's not being included in any of the realignment scenarios that have been discussed. I would feel the same way if it were Tech that nobody even considered worthy of consideration.
