Can someone explain the hype around Troy Green?
This kid is underwhelming, and I don't really see why the rivals board is going gaga for him.

He's not that mobile, he's got good arm strength and accuracy but that will be decimated when any QB coach "fixes" his throw, which looks more like spearfishing than throwing a football.

The rivals board is declaring him the next messiah, what gives?

They are just joking, since everyone believes his scholarship was only given because his dad played for GOL in high school and college. Everybody is pissed that GOL gave a scholarship away to a scrub when we were short on schollies this year, so they keep taking it out on this kid.

RE: Can someone explain the hype around Troy Green?
The Rivals board went apesh*t over him with the highlight video and the Dr. Yessis videos of his training. I'll admit that his motion looks atrocious, but the results he gets from it are legit. He actually broke his elbow throwing his junior year (hence the training sessions with Dr. Yessis) and had to re-learn how to throw. There's a huge difference in the kid from the March 2011 video to the December 2011 video. The board really seemed to really be upset because in the March video of him he is wearing a UCF football t-shirt (as was one of his HS assistant coaches) like the ones the football team wear in practice. Since he's from outside of Syracuse, NY and the son of a player (granted an NFL HOFer) that played for GOL at Syracuse, people were pretty torqued that this waterboy-looking kid was given a QB scholarship and held no offers from anyone else (he claimed he had one from Syracuse, but there's nothing on Scout or Rivals to back that up).

In comparing at the December video with the March video, the kid grew taller and filled out more and has pretty good speed. He's also got a decent arm, but a weird motion. My guess is that he's like I was - a late bloomer - and will fill out more in college. I grew 5 inches between my junior and senior years of HS and grew another 3 in college. But we'll see how he does in summer practice.

UCF wasn't short....as I think least 4 or 5 scholarships went "unused" by the end of the first week in Fed (after signing day).

UCF didn't have the full 25 to offer this year, even with the 4 or 5 they didn't offer (of which they have since used 4), they still gave out 19, including the greyshirts and transfers. Including the post-signing day acquisitions, greyshirts, and transfers, UCF has a total class of 23.

You are correct, KL. I was trying to sum up the arguments of the Troy Green haters, many of whom think that our low scholarship count this year meant that we were not able to sign all the players we wanted to, which is where a lot of hate for Troy comes from.
