Despite any squabbles you are now family and I look forward to improving the conference alongside you.

Doesn't bother me a bit they are invited. Yes, they've been issued an invitation, but lets' not get too over exuberant in our praise and I might add, giddiness. I've got to believe their reason for wanting to come in to the conference now was they probably saw the handwriting on the wall that the "Big A" was't quite ready to roll out their red carpet.

Perhaps it was a bit premature, but I'll file this one under "where there's smoke there's fire."

Thats the official line. If you will remember the SEC had not extended invitations ti Missouri or Texas A&M either, yet they still had press conferences soon after that.

Though Im not sure the official announcement will be Thursday like GSU fans expect, Im thinking next week sometime.

I agree. There is a curve, but most of it deals with depth. The difference between WKU and App, App has the facilities, the fanbase, the resort town selling point, a good coaching staff, and an administration that is committed to athletic success, to the tune of just under $100 million so far. We already bring in great athletes, an FBS status would only increase our abilities.

Even our athletics budget as an FCS school is just a hair under where western kentucky is in the SB, with plans already in place to add $6 million.

He would have to unlock us from our ESPN deal and I don't know if that is possible.

Yes there is and we would not be the first conference to do it. We don't have to tell espn to shove it like c-usa but they may renegotiate with us with a ccg if not take it to court if someone will pay more.

I don't pretend to know all the details about the contracts we have signed but if the MWC and CUSA were about to dissolve both conferences to get free from theirs, I assume it isn't easy.
Didn't the CUSA conflict with ESPN happen when ESPN thought they had an agreement on a new deal as the old one was expiring but CUSA didn't follow through?

Disagree that WKU doesn't have and admin that is committed to athletics success. There is more than just football, in my book.

They are a basketball school and will ALWAYS be. UK has not done too shabbily, eh ?

Yeah if it was just that easy we wouldn't have been talking about completely dissolving to get out of the deals. Sure they might renegotiate with you, but they don't have to up you to what fair market value is, because they own your rights.

I'm not going to get into the NC State level of excuse making that we weren't prepared, it was your super bowl, or any of that garbage, but playing 1 FBS game is much different than a full season.

Im not basing it off of one game. And yes, a 12 game schedule is different, which is where 20 extra scholarships come in pretty handy, which is why I said 2-3 years and we'd be top half.

Those 20 didnt really pay off for you all, App's players were far better conditioned than that 2009 ECU team.

And NO FBS team should get schooled by a 3rd string FCS QB, right?

You're basing it off of you guys playing 1 game or so a year against FBS competition. You played us close, you beat Michigan, you beat several really bad Wake teams, and yet if I went and looked it up I'm certain your FBS record is well below .500. It's probably farther below .500 than our record against AQ opponents. Either way good luck in the future, and hope you plan on making the trip to the Fick this year. I expect you'll be confident you can win this time, and we'll find out on the field.

Again, youre only stating half the fact. App ALWAYs plays FBS schools AT their place, plays with 20 FEWER scholarships, and is limited to scheduling TOP BCS ( exception ECU) like LSU (X2), Florida, Vtech and Georgia especially after the michigan win, because mid level fbs AD's dont want to chance a loss.

I look forward to the App/ECU game this year, it will be nice playing a mediocre FBS team for a change.04-rock

Boom.

Man, you guys really hate Roberson. Suguira was better, of course, that's why he got moved up to the GT beat. Nevertheless, I don't think Roberson is so bad. He just passed along what Benson said. He would have done the same if he had confirmed CBS too.

App State is a very long drive for most of the Sun Belt (aside from WKU and maybe Middle), but they are my number one choice next to Texas State and Georgia Southern. I'm not an expert on what people think in Georgia, but I'm from Columbus and no one knows who Georgia State is even though Atlanta is about an hour away. It's Auburn, UGA, Columbus State, and Ga Southern in my neck of the woods. I don't hate Ga State, I just don't want another startup program with a very small fanbase and little prestige.

The difference between McMurphy being able to break this story and Roberson being thrown a smoke screen is relationships. When your M.O. involves throwing a F.O.I.A. inquiry request at athletic departments rather than building relationships, this is what you get. Sadly our beat reporter is going to be on the outside looking in when this story "officially" breaks. Unfortunately you can erase the internet and your tweets. People will not remember that Benson said eh would not be in Atlanta on Thursday but rather that he reported it even as the room filled with smoke.

I think you have App State on a bit of a pedestal.

A few years down the road, Georgia State should have no problem consistently being at least in the middle of the conference as far as attendance goes, if they're playing well they should be near the top.

App State on the other hand, is probably more likely to regress in attendance, unless they come in and set the world on fire and start the next UNT/Troy type run. If they come in and go 4-4 in conference, their fans, who aren't really used to seeing them lose anyhow, let alone seeing them lose to schools that they probably think they're already better than, their attendance will likely go down some. They'll probably still have one of the better attendance numbers in conference, I just don't think App State is a home run by any means, and yes the travel sucks.

If everything so great then why is your AD hesitating? He says the landscape is constantly changing (obvious) but all you hear is App is happy in the FCS but I think we'd be happy playing FBS too. As a fan, the indecision would drive me nuts.

Also, being in a tourist area is great (mountains) but it's a downfall too. The town can only support so much, it's already overwhelming at 25K. What would be done (infrastructure wise) to accommodate the supposed additional 15K-20K?
