I found this on another board...doesn't look to bad.....the rankings on the left is where the school is in all of D1 football

35. West Virginia 56,545
51. Pittsburgh 41,600
56. Louisville 40,531
58. Connecticut 39,304
61. Syracuse 37,068
69. Rutgers 30,994
79 South Fla. 27,789
88 Cincinnati 21,255

-- Two things stand out to me.....#1 Louisville needs to expand their staduim.....#2 and can anyone explain how USF is outdrawing UC.....I mean USF is sub .500 and UC is a bowl team...what is going on with that??

i had no idea this passed for 21,000 people...

UCONN needs to expand their stadium too, although it is only the 2nd year. We already sold out every game this year except the 1st one against Murray State. The football team is slowly getting into everyone's head. Soon Huskymania will be running wild in Storrs for football too. We should get the stadium to 55K at minimal.

those aren't horrible numbers, Cincy obviously needs to improve though. So does USF. Rutgers seems to be inching higher each year

Easy... Cincy's being honest. USF, on the other hand...

Speaking of attendance, check out USF's (men's) basketball number against Bethune-Cookman: 768. No, that's not a typo. Seven hundred and sixty-eight.

Badass. You guys are going to love them.

We need to work on it. I think it will help playing you guys, Pitt, Syracuse, UofL every year. Maybe now we can establish some real regional rivalries.

It will also help if our team does not continue to lose games by 63 points. :frown:

If you'll note, according to those statistics UM is at round 70% capacity while Louisville is at 90%. This season we were 700 tickets away from a completely sold out season. PJCS will be expanded to 60,000 within 3 years.

Which is smaller than ours already is, making a "% capacity" comparison somewhat unfair, no?

Not at all. If we had more tickets to sell there is every reason to believe our actual attendance would increase.

i'll believe it when i see it...i see NO hard "done deal" plans anywhere to build this addition to PizzaStadium...and yeah...the Liberty bowl holds 65,885 so it's a good bit bigger than the birdhouse.

Go Tigers!!!

SO,
I for one find the information you posted very interesting but also misleading. While it will be difficult for Louisville to increase attendance with joining the Big East, since we are at stadium capacity, I believe the over all attendance at UC and USF will improve moving to the Big East. The reason I say this is that fans in all three of the New Big East cities see the move to the Big East as a significant and next years attendance will reflect as such. You also include attendance figures for CUSA games that Louisville was part of in CUSA. Many of the leftovers from CUSA hate to admit it but Louisville visiting almost always brought out their crowds. (I think the Memphis fans that post here would agree with this point.)

dead-on accurate. it is a fallacy to take 2004 attendance for 2005 members and project that as what they will actually draw in 2005. the numbers will be much higher w/ BE competition.

First, USF counts the number of tickets sold and not those really in the seats. They "really" average about 22,000. Their smallest crowd was 14,344, and had a crowd of only 16,000 against Memphis.

Second, Cincy always have drawn little crowds. Even with the NBE, they won't really draw 'big' unless they are playing Ohio State or a Big 10 team. I doubt people would jump for when Rutgers or UConn come to town....

We drew 30,000 for Temple last year why wouldn't people jump at the chance to see Rutgers or UConn?

On a side note, it's impossible to compare UC's current attendance with the Big East attendance. UC's attendance always spikes when they play Big Ten and Big East schools. That's why Bob Goin and the UC administration killed themselves trying to get UC into the conference. Fans in the area relate to geographical rivals. When Purdue, West Virginia, Ohio State, Wisconsin, Temple and Syracuse come to town people recognize the name. Fans will recognize the name Rutgers and Connecticut. The same people who saw "Big East team Temple" and came will see Rutgers and Connecticut. People need to understand, UC's fan base is horrible because we don't have any geographical rivals to draw from. UC fans will travel. We sent between 2000 and 3000 people to West Virginia last year. Local fans LOVE Big Ten and Big East teams, and UC fans go bonkers when a Big Ten or Big East school is on the schedule. If they come to Nippert, fans come out in droves, always in the 30,000 range. If they play them on the road UC fans always travel to see a UC team against a Big Ten or Big East school. That's how you build a fan base, having that kind of geographical identity and playing in a conference of that prestige.
