Football Team Nears Deal With Tar Heels
BRETT MCMURPHY
Published: Dec 2, 2004
TAMPA - South Florida still needs another nonconference game to complete its 2005 football schedule, but the Bulls are nearing agreement for a future home-and-home series with North Carolina.
The Tar Heels' 2005 schedule is set. The schools are discussing a home-and-home series between 2006-08.
``Something should be forthcoming in the next few weeks, one way or another,'' UNC senior associate AD Larry Gallo said. ``What is attractive is they play in Raymond James Stadium.''
Florida also is one of the Tar Heels' prime recruiting areas. This year's UNC roster features 14 Floridians, the most of any state other than North Carolina
BULL BOUND? QB Justin Midgett, who has received his release from Florida, is strongly considering transferring to USF, said his father, Billy.
Billy Midgett said he spoke with offensive coordinator Mike Hobbie to gauge the Bulls' interest in Justin, who would have to sit out next year and then would have two years of eligibility starting in 2006.
``They said they were concentrating on [Saturday's game with] Pittsburgh, but were interested in talking after the season is over,'' Billy Midgett said. ``They're interested, we're interested and we'll go from there.''
Justin said he won't make a decision for a few weeks. USF, South Carolina and Eastern Illinois are among the schools he is considering.
``What South Florida has over both of them is location,'' said Justin, who is from Punta Gorda. ``They're a program on the rise. They're toward the top of a very short list.''
Midgett attended the same high school as several Bulls, including FS Javan Camon, CB Bruce Gipson, LS Justin Daniel and former WR Elgin Hicks
