What is this radio station WHAS dropping Louisville sports in place of UK about? Where is WHAS located?? I find it hard to believe a radio station would drop a school that is going to be a BCS favorite next yr for football and has Pitino has its coach in hoops.

It’s our flagship station in Louisville and the largest station in the state at 50,000 watts. Host Communications, a shill for the UKAA, just threw a sh#$load of money at WHAS to have UK preempt UofL broadcasts on the station. Louisville fans are going berserk right now, it’s a load of @%#& simply because they can't put a better product on the field so they are attempting to buy the airwaves out from under us.

We will still be on WHAS for the time being but if there is a conflict with the games the UofL Broadcast would be sent to one of WHAS sister stations. For years it was the other way around until Host/UK is rumored to be paying around 10 Million for the rights.

Well...I guess in some strange way this is a compliment...UK is so worried about the rise of UofL that they have to go and buy out the Cardinals flagship radio station.....How big of a loss is this? How easy will it be for people who live in Kentucky but not Louisville to hear the Cardinals??

At first glance this looks like a bad thing for UofL but in the end it will prove to be a blessing. Heres why.....
Host Communications, a UK subsidiary, just paid or will pay if the proposal goes through 15 million dollars to get their teams on at prime times on WHAS radio in Louisville. Louisville presently being paid 2.5 million for its games on WHAS. My question is if your the state school why do you have to pay to have your games broadcast into the largest market in your state. Knowing what I know of the folks in Lexington, they swallowed alot of pride to do this, 15 millions worth. As I posted on another board, radio is not the median it was 50 years ago. So UK just paid 15 million for top billing on a mediam that past its prime 50 years ago. Like I said earlier, kind of like being the highest bidder on the last seat on the Titanic.
What WHAS was hoping was that UofL would simply accept being number 2 and move on. Tom Jurich has other ideas and now WHAS is sweating because they know 95% of their listeners are Louisville fans. A bad position for WHAS, not their fault because Clear Channel is calling the shots and all they see is 15 with a bunch of zero behind it.
Jurich is said tio be working on an 80 station network proposal with Nelligan Sports. This should get interesting and in the end be a positive for Louisville.
