It's one of our aces but we have alot more.

- Competitive on a national level (NCAAs) in multiple sports (MBB, WBB, Soccer, Baseball, Golf)
- We have around 70K alumni living in the Charlotte area. 95K overall.
- Already hired an FBS staff
- Stadium expandable to 40K
- Men's Basketball attendance around 6K despite 2 straight losing seasons
- We had 6K-7K fans attend the NC soccer game in Alabama. Top 20 regular season attendance
- No other FBS team in our market (There are a large amount of ACC and SEC fans though)

Could list more but you get the point. Our downside is we haven't played a down of football.

I was just going to go with #1. Thanks for the bonus coverage.
UTSA brings attendance numbers that boggle the mind.
UTSA should be a Sports Marketing class study is startup ticket promotion. Vouchers is where its at. Very smart move on their part.

It's not just attendance either. The UTSA name is all over the Riverwalk and they enjoy true support from most of the businesses in the city.

We have plenty of support downtown. We get plenty of local media coverage. The difference is that we're 5 or 6 times the size of San Antonio. And its not like I am not familiar with San Antonio and the South Texas/ Rio Grande Valley area. Its still a Burnt Orange Nation down there.

I haven't been to the Riverwalk but I'm downtown regularly. I wouldn't say the Ga State athletics is in my face very often. I did walk through campus during the Hunger Walk so I saw the logo on the buildings a few times.
San Antonio is just more isolated than Atlanta. They have much better chance of capturing fans on a Saturday afternoon than Ga State when you have Ga Tech right there and Athens and Auburn a relatively short drive away.

I have many friends in Atl. and we discuss the plight of the athletic program. When I was in Atl for football I did an informal survey with regard toGaSU football. The best response was "yea, I heard they planned something". Others were less pleasent.

Any conference which adds schools have to ask questions about position in market. GaSU has no command of the market. If they were in the belt and N.Texas was playing MTSU on tv, their membership would not cause 10 channel changes.

When you add to membership you should better your position.

GaSU has fairly weak athletic history, poor attendance, and community invisibility.

Because a basketball game played at least fifteen years ago and a football game played in a program's infancy are indicative of what a program is and always will be?

Give me a break.

I think the point is that they still bring very little value to any conference with their lack of fan support. My point is that if they are elevated the SBC will make them relevant and then they will leave the conference quickly for a higher platform. We get little financial gain and a new competitor is in place to fight for the resources we need (i.e. players and TV money).

While I don't completely agree with your point, I actually understand it, OldJaguar's point was asinine at best.

I know..i know. I am so goofy.
All this time I thought those TV execs sold advertising based on people watching. Thank u now I get it. It is the total sets in Atlanta you crave.

Or maybe you disliked the history of a program which literally no one cares about.

Check out the GaSU vs G Tech attendance for baseball this year. Or season ticket sales in anything.

Maybe I am not so smart, but USA officials thought it was square on.
Pick up your cell and ask your AD what he thinks of your logic. Let us know.

Really?
Are you insinuating you have just undone in one phone call what a dozen or more school presidents have been working on for months? and it's all because you dislike what a school had to offer in the Sun Belt over 30 years ago and that said school is nothing, and I mean NOTHING like it was even just 10 years ago? Really?

Noooo
I am saying s lot of officials think GaSU is not all Panama wants us to believe.
Fact of the matter, way back then, I had wished they could have stuck it out. Like UNO they could not meet the arena rule.
My current problem with them as a member is simply their real value. Not their Panama in wonderland value. They are the best school down there below in the rabbit hole. In the light of day they fail the test for many.

So......you are saying that you are afraid that if GSU was to join the SunBelt that they would increase the interest amongst their fans, increase revenue for their city and yet the sole reason not to accept them is that they may become too relevant?

I am just curious........wouldn't all of you Jagoffs be more concerned about UTSA with all that fan support using the SBC as a stepping stone? Or is this just clear hate for GSU? I am not understanding some of you a$$holes logic

You should probably go back and read the thread as its been answered multiple times now but it is 38 pages so no biggie I guess.

UTSA is already going to be FBS no matter what we do. GSU will only be FBS if someone brings them up. Letting GSU into FBS adds recruiting competition that previously did not exist. This would be okay if GSU would stick around but its possible bigmarketconference2013 will take them up quickly after the Belt is used as the welcome mat.

There is no need to be upset.

So my question to all of you USA fans.....how long exactly are you planning on being in the SunBelt? I would think most of the Jag Nation would be hoping to move out of the SunBelt which begs the question.....How are we any different?

So my question to all of you USA fans.....how long exactly are you planning on being in the SunBelt? I would think most of the Jag Nation would be hoping to move out of the SunBelt which begs the question.....How are we any different?

The argument is that you're stuck without a Sun Belt invite, and that if we don't offer it, you can't/won't move up.

Funny because I remember seeing it posted before how you guys would kill for a Sun Belt invite (before all of this latest movement), which was then met with every "Pfft" and "We're too good . . . " kind of comment you can think of. Funny how things have now come full circle.

At the very least, I would LOVE to play you guys one more time though.

Edit: And to answer your question, every school would consider a move if it was right for them. Difference is, we all are already members of the Sun Belt and are FBS programs. There's obviously so many circumstances involved with that though, who knows where the Sun Belt, the Alliance, or Mega Super Duper BIG 24 ACC will be if and when more movement happens. If Benson comes in and does what we're all hopeful of him doing, and we are proactive on expansion and make sound conference decisions, I could see the SB start to move the meter in the near future.
