For deep dish, I used to love Giordano's, but they closed their Tampa location (they still have some in the Orlando area). I haven't identified a place to replace it yet.

That said, if you're looking for a good pizza place that's not a chain, I recommend CDB's.

The original location next to USF's campus has been there for over 30 years, and you can't go wrong with the CDB Special (essentially a loaded meat-lovers pizza).

FWIW, Tampa seems to be a place that spawns chain restaurants. The original Outback Steakhouse, Hooters and Beef O'Brady's started here, and I'm pretty sure the Outback company started at least two of their other chains (Carrabba's and Bonefish) in Tampa, too. Not that that's anything to brag about -_____-

I'd recommend the 'Pizza Shack", in Seminole. It's great Pizza with all you can eat free bread sticks to boot. I give it 8 thumbs up. That's for my wife, girls and myself. 04-rock

The best pizza I've had in Memphis was Coletta's.

And if you're in Austin, TX the hype about Hometown Pizza is legit. Its very good stuff plus they have good beer on tap and Mexican Cokes.

Do you mean Homeslice?

Yes I do. I typed this out in a rush yesterday.

Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza, and there are a couple ones in the Brandon suburb Formaggio's and Joel's that are top-notch. (This is my Tampa voice speaking.)

Campisi's "Egyptian" on Mockingbird in Dallas. http://campisis.us/Mockingbird.html

There are better pizzas in Dallas, but Campisi's is very good...and it's got a connection to the mafia and Jack Ruby (he ate there the night before he shot Oswald and asked Joe Campisi to come see him after he was arrested for shooting Oswald).

Yup....Mt Olympus. It fell out of favor though because Zeus kept trying to bone it.

There are a few locations but I prefer the one on Bardstown Rd. There is also one downtown, I believe near the YUM Center.

As far as Louisville goes, this is probbaly the best around. They make a great Chicago style pie. Although I will admit after a night of drinking, I prefer Spinelli's, as it is a thin crust pizza that just seems designed to soak up the alcohol. However as to the thread title, seeing as how we are in a conference that has DePaul, St. Johns, and Nova, probably the three best cities in the US to get pizza, I think we know who takes the cake as far as best pizza in the conference.

But, in a bit of irony, Louisville happens to be the home base of both Papa John's and Pizza Hut.

Historically, yes. I was merely talking about a specific type of pizza that came over from Torino, Italy. But yes, you're correct. 04-cheers

Bacinos is pretty good but for Chicago Deep Dish go with Pizzaria UNO near the Magnificent Mile. The Deep Dish was supposedly created by the original Chef Rudy Malnati. Other good pizza places within a few blocks form campus are Gino's East and Lou Malnatis (Founded by the son of Rudy). Chicago takes their pizza seriously and never ask how many calories it has. They will just give you a smartalick remark if not kick you out.

As a Chicago local, I've eaten at all those places. Lou Malnati's is the best for pie. Their thin crust is a favorite too.

I was in Houston for business a couple weeks ago and was impressed by Pink's Pizza.

I was at a BNB off Heights Blvd (really nice area of town). The Pink's Pizza location is near 14th and Heights Blvd. Pink's is next to a convenient store; however, if you want to enjoy a beer with your slice, you can't. The Heights area is dry.

Order by the slice and add you toppings - takes about 5 minutes. A slice is all you'll need.

I like Lou Malnati's a lot as well. Around Christmas time a bunch of us have a tradition of getting Lou's overnighted to us for NFL Sunday.

I love Pequad's in chicago. Best idea for a deep dish pizza: carmalize the cheese to make the outer crust

Italians in Providence typically make pizza with a harder thin crust, the Neopolitan style. Deep dish isn't very popular... too heavy and doughy and we'd all weigh 500 lbs...
