Still smiling went to Fort Worth and had a great time need to do it again.
Great news, although ESPN is the only place I've seen that has him at 4 stars. Quick internet search reveals he was committed to Baylor almost a year ago until they pulled his scholarship. Had some offers from some incoming Big East programs (SMU and Navy) and an incoming ACC program (Syracuse).
Rivals had him at 3-stars until lowering him to 2-stars after the Baylor de-comittment (I have no idea if those were related). Scout has him at 3-stars and obviously ESPN at 4-stars (and Rice's best rated recruit under Bailiff). I won't complain, excited to have him as an Owl!
Green is not in the DMN's top 100 DFW area recruits. Hopefully they are underrating him.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
I'm looking forward to seeing German next spring. He had some good schools interested in him before his commitment and shoulder injury.. Moondog says he has large hands, which is the first thing Chip Kelly looks for when recruiting QBs, and he looks like he has the arm strength to make some throws our current starter can't.
A number of projects in this class. Rice-only offers, from a state this heavily recruited, can be worrisome. Moondog says we have a good track record of developing our own... I think it depends how you look at it. Clearly we have turned some largely ignored recruits into very good college players and potential pros... but we've also won something like 17 of our last 50 games.

Any chance of us signing Otaro Alaka next year? I know everyone wants him.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
I never put much faith in the recruiting rankings. Rice will always go after the players who are "coachable" and who have "growth potential." The good thing about the players signed by Rice every year is that they are willing to learn and improve. They're team players. They're not egocentric and selfish. Rice's kids are the kind of kids coachs' can get the most from, and they usually do. That being said, Rice's recruits don't look bad, at all, on paper.

I don't know how you guys let this kid get out of Houston, but ODU is happy to have him. He looks like a Taylor Heinicke clone, except maybe he runs a little more.
"They sell out every game," Shane told this TV reporter.
I grew up near Dallas and am an old time SWC fan. Yes, I am an Aggie (Grad Class of '70), but I have lived in the Norfolk area for over 22 years now, and have two daughters who graduated from ODU. I take it attendance at Rice is not good. What kind of attendance do you normally have for a home game?
(Ballard Stadium's capacity is 19,818, down from 26,000 in 1957-1980.)

Not good, that's for sure. Generally in the 15-25K range.
2012 home game listed attendance:
UCLA: 23,105
Marshall : 14,204
UT-San Antonio: 28,677 (Homecoming & Centennial Celebration)
Southern Mississippi: 14,927
Southern Methodist: 20,710
Last year 32,718 saw our game with U. Houston, which was played at the Texans' home, Reliant Stadium.
I'm also Class of 1970. Our basketball team played ODU back when the Scope Arena was new (December 28, 1971). I took in the game en route to driving home to D.C. We won, 114-85, but my car was broken into and my clothes/luggage were stolen.

RE: 2013 Football Recruiting
I am truly sorry to hear about your experience here back in "71. We now play round ball on campus in the Ted Constant Center, which seats somewhere just over 9,500 and was built in 2002. I hope you get a chance to come back and have a more enjoyable experience.
Foreman Field at Ballard Stadium only seats 20,000, but an update to the University Master Plan is due out any day now and will include plans to either enlarge Foreman Field or build a new stadium. I believe we will have a stadium capacity of around 45,000 when that gets done.
Good luck to you guys this year. We have a rabid fan base and have sold out every home game since resuming football in 2009 with a sizeable waiting list for season tickets.
Cheers!
