As discussed a million times over, they can't really stop anyone. It all comes down to damages. I don't think there is any way they can stay viable with only 5 schools, though.

With 5 schools, they could play everyone in conference home and away and have an 8 game schedule. They'd probably lose their BCS AQ for 1 year but it would be doable.

I've also heard that the ACC would only play 8 conference games if Pitt and Syr were able to join next season, which wouldn't cause any issues with current ACC teams being forced to drop OOC games. They would start with 9 in 2013

Who knows maybe one of those BE Expansion schools could come in a year early. Here's a list of schools that still are looking for games. I think its safe we can find a game or 2 from that list.

But you're right, if we play in the ACC in 2012 we'll see a 8 game conference schedule this upcoming season.

No, it's NOT safe to say that. Many of the non-AQ teams on that list haven't scheduled an FCS team yet.
