Va tells students they value their cheap labor more than their education

Quote:
Known as the Kings Dominion Law for the major amusement park just north of Richmond, the state policy has helped tourist attractions augment their staffs with the inexpensive labor of students during summer vacation season through Labor Day.

The effort you put forth to make this some sort of issue is hilarious.

Quote:The bill, which allows local school boards to determine starting dates, was among several aimed at bringing Virginia's academic year more in line with those of other states, which begin in early to mid-August.

I am unaware of any schools that ever opened prior to September.

When I was in school we switched to opening before Sept. Not sure what the rationale was.

Since the schools would probably need union approval to switch hours, I'd bet this favored them some how.

I've never been to a school that didn't start in August.

Growing up in Mobile, the public schools were not air-conditioned, and the extreme late-summer heat would have made it pointless to attempt to hold class in August.

That's all changed now.

Not sure SMN has ever gone to school which is what may explain his not knowing. 05-stirthepot

I did go to school, including 6 years of Catholic school and I still have the marks from where the nuns hit me with a ruler.

That is a North Carolina thing. Our schools in North Carolina started as early as August 1. We have to get ready for football season.04-cheers

When I moved to Illinois, many start after Labor Day.
