Seattle, this ballpark is already a year behind schedule.

The thing is, this could have been so huge. Build this thing the right way and you could have rented the place to the Cardinals or other minor league team.Incompetence. Again and again, ETSU athletic administration proves to be incompetent

who says they cant/wont?
Judging by that picture, they can't build the d*mn thing up to tee ball standards much less MILB.

nope, better look 20 miles to the north...

Does this mean we could possibly be playing in Bristol's ball park?

i was thinking kingsport (db's park)...

It beats not having a place to play at all. Sigh...

Absolutely pathetic. Terrible. Completely terrible. What did they expect with trying to hurry and finish a stadium going into late fall/early winter?
It's simply moronic.

RE: Baseball Stadium Progress
Every time I say something like this I get jumped up and down on, but ETSU once did have their own field- Mooney Field.

I understand Mooney did not have the amenities one wants in a Division I ballpark, let alone a minor league one.

But the thought occurs- if ETSU hadn't of dropped football, they wouldn't have needed a soccer stadium. No soccer stadium, no need to tear down Mooney. No need to tear down Mooney, and the ballpark ETSU is building could have been built- presumably for far less- on the Mooney grounds.

Maybe it wouldn't have been surrounded by living quarters. But I would think that the zoning wouldn't prohibit apartments or dorms from being built around that park if they wanted to build them, and the existing businesses along State of Franklin would also reap more of a reward from fans going to baseball games as the field would be closer to their locale.

My main thing is that ETSU tradition has been destroyed with the demise of Mooney Field. Jim Mooney and his family are a huge part of ETSU- a part I'm very proud of to be associated with in a small way. ETSU needs to continue to honor him in some way- my suggestion is a statue outside the new ballpark.

It seems to me that the AD should be having a screaming fit about the progress of this field. Crossing your fingers and hoping it gets done is ridiculous. Maybe some of the folks who worked so hard to get the Science Hill Football Stadium built and in use - even AFTER ground breaking for the baseball field - should lend some advice to ETSU. There isn't even any believable information released as to what the holdup is!

These are the same people who purposely built the swimming pool and basketball courts inches to small so they
could never be used for offical competitions. Lack of forsight, what else did you expect?

It seems you have an athletic department that doesn't care, because they refuse to make any statements as to why they are behind schedule. I don't mean that one comment they made a year ago about weather. They need to be giving regular updates and apologizing frequently. Why haven't they had to answer to the JC Press? Oh yeah, got them in their pocket.

What I want to know is why aren't they even TRYING to raise money for a basketball arena. Not all of us want the current screw ups in charge when it's built, but what's the excuse for that?

Mullins would say, "show me the money". He really likes that line, and actually thinks its credible. And, the local media must like it also. THEY NEVER ASK HIM FOR ANY EXPLANATION OF ANYTHING, AND DO NOT KNOW THE MEANING OF A FOLLOW-UP QUESTION. Perhaps Dr. Noland will ask him why there's NO PROGRESS AT ALL in building a new arena or even renovating the Dome after nine years or what's the deal with this baseball stadium project. Or better, perhaps Dr. Noland will simply place someone in that position who can actually do the job of a mid-major athletic director and get behind him/her to get the job done.

There is certainly no excuse for taking 2 years to build a baseball field. Literally, its taken them nearly two years to build the small amount that they have, and they dont even have grass yet. And the grading was done for them!

I, like many on here, want a new athletic department before we even think of a basketball arena. There is no way they need to be over the contstruction of an arena.

+1,000,000

So according to the article, they might play games at the new field before the stadium is finished? How will that work with no restrooms, pressbox, parking, or SEATS?! (Well, I guess they know how to run things with no pressbox since none of the other facilities have had one when they've opened either.) It's like: "Here's this great new ballpark...now park 1/4 mile away and bring your own lawn chair." RIDICULOUS! 01-wingedeagle

The sad thing is we saw the SAME THING with the soccer field. The materials to build it sat in the parking lot rotting for three years before it was finally done. And the softball field? How's that state of the art pressbox coming along?
I had talked to a friend of mine who knows someone working on the field/ordering materials, etc... a couple of months back when the first article came out talking about it being ready. They said NO WAY IN HELL it's ready to go this season. Funny thing is we hear all these excuses from athletics, weather, the rock, etc...

maybe if the fellow saying "no way in hell" would stop talking to your friends and get to work we could play some baseball there one day...

Actually, there have been a couple of guys who would/have been critical of Mullins, but he seperated himself from them to save his own ass.
