The Best News of the Year for Sun Belt Football
All you North Texas and FIU fans ready to jump on the conference USA train may want to hold on to your tickets!

If all 120 FBS teams lose five scholarships that means 120 times 5 which is 600 players without scholarships that will be going to FCS programs. This also means between the SEC (14) Big East (10?), Pac 12 (12), Big Ten (12), Big Ten (10?) there will now be 290 and let me say that again 290 more players that would have been at those schools for all of us to choose from.

Not sure of you point here... Why wouldn't any of those 600/290 be unavailable to UNT or FIU if both were in CUSA?

It would reduce the stratification between the top and bottom conferences - bringing them all closer together. That's why I don't think it will happen.

I am missing why this would make you want to join or not join CUSA since they will benefit and be hurt by this just like he Belt as far as I can tell.

What this means is a lot of former AQ recruits wind up on non-AQ teams and a lot of non-AQ wind up in FCS or JUCO. It hurts the AQ conferences more than it helps anyone else, so as earlier mentioned, it's unlikely to happen. The teams that land lots of 3* guys now will get more 4*, the teams that get 2* guys now will get more 3* guys.

In general, CUSA programs have better recruiting classes than Sun Belt programs. While this should in theory end up helping a program in the Sun Belt, it would still help them as much, if not more in CUSA.

Justin Taylor and his coach/guardian not happy with Alabama's roster management
Published: Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 5:00 AM Updated: Tuesday, January 17, 2012, 6:23 AM
By Kevin Scarbinsky, Birmingham News

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama - The timing could've been better, could've been worse. Justin Taylor could've been asked to delay his enrollment at Alabama for a year after he signed with the Crimson Tide.

He could've been forced to take a grayshirt, like it or not, when he had no choice, though Nick Saban has said in the past that all potential grayshirts are informed of that possibility in advance.

In this case, by Taylor's own admission, Saban gave him a choice.

The Alabama coach asked the running back from North Atlanta High School to wait to enroll until January of 2013.

Why?

Too many commitments for the 2012 signing class and too few places to put them? Taylor's slow rehab from a knee injury? Or a little of both?

Under the new rule, Alabama was forced to make a decision on signing Taylor now. When the school decided it didn't want to sign him in this class - Alabama has more than 25 commitments and is still pursuing uncommitted players - that gave Taylor a choice. Taylor said he's weighing other options, including Purdue and Tennessee.
