A smooth, oak aged imperial stout that is to die for! YUM!

Similar to Bourbon County Stout?

Have not had it...BUT I WANT TO :)

Its currently not available.

It is very limited. Binnys would only let you buy two 4 packs at a time.
You drink it from a brandy glass.

Yeah, I think most imperial beers (and most Belgium ales) are served from a goblet.

I actually went to Goose Island Wrigleyville for dinner with a couple friends of mine this last weekend just so I get me some. Of course, they didn't have any. Waitress said, if I remember right, that it would be available in April. Booo.

I just want pint glasses from the top twenty or thirty breweries. Right now I only have Cigar City and Swamphead (both local Florida breweries). Both are top notch. My nephew who was an assistant brewer at Cigar City (and who turned me on to craft beer is now a brewer with Avondale Brewing Company in Birmingham).

GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But seriously. Give it.

Is it good? I've heard of it....how would you describe it?

I think it's very good. I know all of these bourbon sites describe the bourbon as having vanilla notes, with some sweetness of sugar/caramel, etc., but my palate must be too insensitive to catch all of that. All I can really say is that it is pretty smooth for a 90 proof, and more flavorful than Makers Mark. I'm pretty much a bourbon novice, so I wish I could help you out more.

I got the 375ml bottle, and even though it was a "Binny's select" bottling, as was the one I tasted in store (Binny's let's you try some of there spirits for free - very cool!) I'm wondering if that was a different barrel blend since it was from a 750ml and seemed to be a little smoother (although I tasted it in-store yesterday and my bottle tonight, so maybe I'm just not recalling it properly).

If I may, allow me to offer the following:
  • Store the bourbon at room temperature.
  • Add a small amount of bottled water (tap water can alter the taste) so that the bourbon flavor is released.
  • Chew your first sip and breath in through your nose as you chew to bourbon, and you will taste everything as described, I promise!
  • After that, swig away, preferably whilst chomping on a steak or smoking a see-gar.

If you want your bourbon cold but don't want to dilute the flavor with water, look to invest in some "bourbon stones." Otherwise, make your ice cubes out of bottled water.

This all sounds elitist, yes..... but in my opinion it's a bit fun to put your nose in the air and drink bourbon.

I did drink it at room temp, and actually did add about a teaspoon of bottled water, but could you explain this "chew" thing for a bourbon newbie? What exactly does that mean?

Wish I had the cigar, but I don't smoke in the house; I was just in my basement office cruising the net with a little pour of bourbon! :)

I went to Purdue last weekend with a friend of mine that owns a lounge/bar. They had Hopslam on draft. It was incredible. I wish I was drinking some right now.

LOL I dunno about that. It wasn't TOO sweet...as I was a little worried about that. But I'd say yes, its very good. AND a bit different, probably because its oat and not the usual grains. A little pricey at 44 bucks (in Chicago, dunno how prices are in the burbs)...but it will be a lil more expensive since its a "boutique" whiskey.

But hey, as a once in while purchase to make yourself feel good for 1) buying local and 2) feeling bourgeois...its a good buy. :)

04-cheers04-cheers04-cheers No question! That is one reason why I think I have a soft spot for Goose Island beers, and it definitely one reason I chose bourbon as the spirit I want learn more about - bourbon is a, and maybe THE - quintessential American spirit!

RE: Whatchya Drinkin?
Bourbon is definitely American. Whiskey.... its not only American, but I mean, it basically says America. It burns, smells, leaves you feeling like hell after you get into fights you shouldn't, but dammit, its awesome. I guess it describes the Irish too. haha

Goose Island..and maybe I'm being a little too high brow....is a little TOO big for my tastes...at least since they got bought out. That said, I still like them, but they are lower on my list. Their standard beers don't excite me but they do some great seasonals and one-offs.

04-rock04-rock Sounds like you just wrote a SuperBowl add for some bourbon company! 03-lmfao

I used to love Honker's Ale, but not so much anymore, and I was pretty much leaving GI [edited to add - I short-handed GI for Goose Island, meaning I was getting tired of Goose Island beers until I tried the Green Line - I definitely short-handed this WAY too much!] , but have you tried their Green Line? It's fantastic IMO. Except you can only get it on draft, but it is my favorite draft beer - period (at least for right now).
