I'm sorry for your loss, Bearcat fans. Based on the Cincinnati article, it sounds like he lived life to the fullest, albeit one that was far too short.

The last pm Gruehls ever sent me. It was during my custody battle back in August. I didn't even ask him anything but he offered his help.

Really nice guy.

Never physically met him, but I always got the impression that Greg was one of those guys who positively impacts everyone he comes in contact with. He was clearly a mental giant with an even bigger heart. RIP Gruehls.

So sad to see the toll that constant pain takes on people. I regret that I never had the chance to make Gruehls acquaintance; I'd bet he was fascinating person to have a few beers with. I'll miss his posts here. My condolences to his family.

Merciful and understanding to me, even though he simply tolerated me. He was fair to me, and I know loved by many on this board, around Cincinnati, and Bearcat Nation.

Am I allowed to ask what health issue was the cause of his death?

He more than just tolerated you. He had a soft spot for you that none of the other mods really understood. Everytime you came back with a new name, it was always Greg who said we should let you stick aroud when everyone else wanted to ban your new name. Everytime we deferred to his judgement and agreed to give you another shot.

Just gutted over this awful news. He was a great person from a great family. A sharp, wise, witty and fair man and someone I had the pleasure to get to meet and share some bearcat and legal stories with. My prayers to him and his wonderful family. I can't imagine their pain at his loss.

I just can't believe he's gone. God bless him.

I had the pleasure to meet Greg during the NCAA tounament 3 or 4 years ago at BW3 in Symms Township. He posted on the board that he was going, I wasn't working that day and took my kids to meet him. Not only did he buy lunch, beers, and made my children feel at home with him, he would keep giving them quarters after quarters so they could run off and play video games. RIP Greg. You will be missed by all that met you.

Again, speaks volumes about Greg.

But since you brought it up......he cared enough, through private messages, to ask about the mess that was going on in my life and offered advice, instead of the path of many who simply chose to make fun of me.

I highly respected him for that.

The more I read about him, that respect and appreciation increases 100x.

RE: Gruehls has passed away
A crushing loss. Not just for this board or Bearcat athletics, but for the University, our City, and humanity as a whole.

Greg was one of the first people I noticed back in the days of the old cnn/si bearcat chat board. He was intelligent, witty, and funny all at once. There was nobody better at talking smack, but he never did it in a disrespectful way. In person, he was one of the most relaxed, well-read, and kindest people I've ever met.

It feels like a family member has passed. In many ways, that's exactly what has happened. You will always be remembered and missed, Greg. Godspeed to the Ruehlmann family.
