2011 FB Recruiting Class vs 2012 (so far)
Any thoughts on a comparison between the two classes? Are we doing better this year?

In a couple sentences, both seem very solid with some players who were sought by bigger programs.

I'm just waiting to see if we get any more recruits with the 'high upside' ala Russell, Cotton, Reed and Scott from the '11 class.

This class might be a little more 'blue collar' which I mean with a big emphasis on both lines.

I have my own list of say a half dozen kids whom I think would complete the class (if we get sat 3 of these it will be a class comparable to '11):

1). Stephon Hall - teammate of Amos Houston - think he has a big upside as a DL

2). Two DLs from W. LA C.C. - we've offered both per Scout.com. Both have other FBS offers. They meet a critical recruiting need. This is where English gets to shine again in '12 (recruiting California).

3). Quincy Jones - WR - a good talent and talent can't be overlooked.

4). Mouton or Williams - QB - NEED at least one.

5). One LB - haven't thought of whom is most likely. Sterling Johnson LB/K from Birmingham Seaholm is a possibility. I'm having problems getting a handle on LB recruiting. Johnson's teammate at Birm. Seaholm is a ver good OT. Would love to have both, but I think the OT could walkon to UofM. The kid I believe is 100% Maize and Blue.

Dear emu79,
I think we have a very nice class so far, but there are a slew of three stars left on the Scout.com website that would make great additions regardless of position. There are offensive linemen, defensive linemen, and some special position people like quarterbacks and running backs still undecided.
I think most of those will make their decision by the middle of next month. I just don't expect much movement until then.

We are now in an interesting time for football (or hoops) team.

The end of first semester and essentially a dead period for FB recruiting visits, etc. (nothing much happens the next two holiday weekends).

For FB, JUCOs who have their degrees and wish to enroll in January can NOW sign on the dotted line (I believe as of yesterday). I believe there is a short window say 10 - 14 days to allow these JUCO kids to get signed and enrolled in their 4-year schools. (we all remember what English pulled off last December getting the California JUCOs signed and enrolled for 2nd semester).

This is also the time where FB and hoop players can transfer between schools.

Murphy got anyone coming? Please. I love your transfers. 03-cloud9

English has gotten transfers in the past.

I believe it is also the time when a 'gray shirt' can enroll. A gray shirt recruit enrolls in January, pays his own way for 2nd semester, but get a scholarship for next year. Gray shirt gets to do spring ball.

Any gray shirts??? (we don't seem to use it much).

This is the time across both FB and hoops where kids who aren't getting playing time, or homesick or don't like the weather or have a girl friend back home, or ill parents back home, etc. can leave their programs.

(We've had good luck with the California kids 04-cheers - they've seemed to adjust to the Midwest very well - think we've had some retention issues with players from the southeast.).

Unfortunately, most schools won't release things like a JUCO signing or a player transferring into/out of the program.

That is pretty much up to us. Schools will announce on Feb 1 their whole group of signees.

I believe these are signing day classes and changes after that are not reflected.
