What about UNT, ULM, and FAU?

Just a top 7 prediction I UNT could very well be fourth

We won't have a better class than FIU or stAte...UL may edge us out also...atleast 4th, no better than third. Malzahn is tearin' it up right now...

About Malzahn I can agree but us dropping lower than third I will disagree. Especially considering I have seen some of these guys around campus already......You can't really take back your enrollment lmao.

As I've said before, it's subjective, but you're kidding yourself if you think TROY will have a better class than FIU or stAte...we're playing catch-up and we likely won't beat them out...class is still out on WKU and Louisiana, at this point.

RE: 2012 Recruit Rankings
Recruiting time...the only thing to do after the season and it keeps us talking football.

Well, not a lot of recruiting "stars" for the ULM commits. Three 3* according to Rivals and one according to ESPN. The one thing I am seeing with this class is size and speed. Now do these 2* players pan out? Who knows. But the days of 5'8" corner backs is about to come to an end. Two CBs that run 4.5 40s and 6'1" and 6'3". A 3*/4* (depending on site) JUCO who originally signed and played at Arkansas. A 6'4" and a 6'5" TE. A 6'4" WR who runs a 4.5 40. A former Minnesota commit as well.

So, it looks like a ton of potential. Let's see if it translates on the field.

We are excited about the potential of our class to help us compete early. We've gone OL and secondary heavy with this class, keys to helping a young team win IMO. We have somewhere around 20 commits along with some JUCO, all total somewhere in the neighborhood of 8-10 3*.

where is the best place to get that list w/ info on the recruits?

I am a TROY fan born and raised in Mobile, so I have always been interested in South's program.

Three major sites which can give you some insight as to ratings as well. Scout, Rivals, and ESPN. You can really get a feel for a player, meaning if he is rated high on all sites you can bet he should be pretty good. However, you get to see the difference in the rating folks as well, where he might be a 2* on one site, a 3* on another, and NR on a third.

It does amaze me about the differences that can be between all 3.

I dont know if its because one site has "studied" while the other hasnt, but you can have a 1 or 2 star guy on ESPN be a 3 - 4 star on Rivals.

In my purely unscientific analysis, it would seem that ESPN and Scout are pretty close (although ESPN has a bunch of guys with film but no eval). Rivals always seems to give out more stars than the other two. Of course, the difference between Scout and Rivals sometimes depends upon your school's presence (someone to work the website). I know ULM and ULL have a much more robust presence on Scout so we get more info from there.

I think that's exactly the difference. Another is that some evaluators take character, off the field issues, etc into account when assigning ratings while others go strictly off of athletic ability. I like to go with espn's ratings. The commit and offer lists may not be as up to date as a paid subscription service, but I feel like they are generally a more objective ranking system. Who knows though.

Our site jagsjungle.com. http://jagsjungle.com/index.php/forums/v...p?f=2&t=82

In the football forum, SkullyMaroo put together a nice spreadsheet (link to thread above) with all offers, commits, and possibles along with the player ranking from all 3 services. It lists all of the public commits we have, but as AJ mentioned earlier I think, we have several that are not public yet.

Exactly. Troy has about ten guys that have already enrolled in school. Some of our conference mates have a lot of commits that are not guaranteed and it's never a given because you always have 4 stars back out of schools at the last minute then schools like Pitt look to schools like ASU with 4 star verbals and try and pull guys.

I wish we had four stars but to say Troy has no chance in getting a top 3 class is just nonsense. We have consistently near the top in conference recruiting.

Good work by Skully - when will the rest of the Sun Belt appear on that spreadsheet? :ncaabbs:

I can tell you that I'm one of the biggest TROY fans out there and this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to recruiting. I never said that we didn't have a good class, because we do...We just won't have a top 2 class...possibly not a top 3. Now, as far as stAte goes, I'm not buying that they lose much from this class because of sheer name recognition alone. They got over the hump and they'll get some good kids that want to keep that going.

I'm curious as to which site you're basing your opinions on currently?

FIU just added another Rivals 3-star player, as Palatka, FL 6-4/215 LB Leroy Owens just de-committed from Syracuse to commit to FIU. With this new commitment, FIU has 17 "3-stars and above" players in their database, and 20 overall if you count ESPN and Scout as well. Surprisingly, so far only TCU has more "3 stars and above" in rivals database, from all the non-AQ Conferences teams.

Only thing We've learned from the past 24 hours about ASU is that Memphis fans are extremely jealous of what we have.

Just looking at the three big recruiting sites the FIU class looks very impressive in both quantity and quality.

Troy must have had a lot of immediate needs.

Several SBC teams only have a few commits so it is way too early to judge all the classes, but SBC recruiting is sure improved the last three years.

I also think you are seeing an improvement of those services and the players are getting smarter. If you look at ESPN for example and see the number of players ranked at 45. That means that ESPN has film on them but hasn't completed an evaluation. Now, they may never get to them but it appears that the players are doing much more at getting their names and film out there (camps, emailing film) and things like YouTube is really changing a lot of the recruiting.

We deffinately have a lot of immediate needs.

I don't agree w/ all the Juco's but I am glad the coaches have shown that they realized that our defense was inadequate (to say the least!).
