Hudspeth's comment on Sun Belt football
Few comments on the Sun Belt Conference Football having three bowl teams and the lack of respect it receives around the nation.
“I’m going to tell you that’s probably one of the most aggravating things, but we are adding more bowl teams every year. This year by far has garnered us the most respect; the Sun Belt is 4-0 against Conference USA and that’s a fact. To me that is pretty impressive if you think about it. When you see the way our conference has competed against other conferences this year, we beat a Big East team and a lot of other conferences over the past few years. We’ve got a lot of really good coaches in this league and a lot of good teams. And that’s what makes this league tough, it’s hard to win in college football as you know. In this league there is a lot of parity; each team has good talent and good coaching staffs, and I really respect a lot of the coaching staffs in this conference. There were some teams that rose up this year and some teams that were down, but you know they will be right back because the history of their programs show that. But I definitely think getting three teams in to bowls shows the strength of this conference.”

Sometimes, less is more, Mr. Hudspeth.
That was hard to read. But I got it...

Our conference is strong but lacks respect. Do you think if we can bust through that Top 25 barrier, we might get some respect?

probably not much they will always throw out the "look what conference they play in!" Boise, TCU & now Houston all got the same feed back.
Now if that same team wins year in and year out like Boise does, that team might get more respect, but it always will go back to... "look what conference they play in!"
BCS SUCKS!!!!

I thought Troy was ranked for most of a season back a few years ago? Like 2007 or so?

Except it's not. The Sun Belt is 5-2 against C-USA, not 4-0.

Kudos to you for looking that up. But his overall comments are correct, even for South Alabama.

I guess the Belt is 4-0 against CUSA excluding NT which lost to both Houston and Tulsa. However, I am not sure that any other Belt team would have been any better against those two.

I'd put ASU and UL up against those two.

Short answer is no. In fact Troy has never been ranked. Closest we came was after we beat a ranked Mizzu, then we played an egg the next week against NMSU.

North Texas has some talent. Houston and Tulsa have electric offensive power.
But anyways, I would love to see a Sun Belt team finally make a run soon. stAte and Louisiana are in great positions to try it next season, methinks. But Western Kentucky could be baiting people for a disappointment...

You do realize that we're looking for another coach....right?
I think WKU and the Cajuns are in good shape to make a run.

No Sun Belt team has ever cracked the top 25. Although I think a few have been deserving.
