Ohio Punter Complains About Bowl Destination
Run off Twitter for complaining. Last year team went to New Orleans. This year Boise..........
Punter Paul Hershey apparently was spoiled last year when Ohio went to the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl for its postseason destination. So much so that when the Bobcats were selected by the Famous Idaho Bowl in Boise this year, he wasn't exactly thrilled.
So he did what most athletes do when they're upset about something — he expressed his disappointment on Twitter.

they let Northern Illinois come back from 20-0, so they have no reason to complain about where they are playing

Rumors of Southern Miss players skipping their bowl trip to Hawaii because they're pissed their families won't be able to go...

I hate Wrong Waters more than anyone, but what CUSA did to USM is crap. they are guaranteed the Liberty bowl, play the conference championship, they upset the BCS bound Houston and suddenly, instead of a good regional bowl, they are shipped to Hawaii which is a notorious money pit for teams to travel to. With that said, the players shouldn't be stupid enough to not go because their family cant go, WKU and Ball State would GLADLY take their spot if they don't want it.

Um...Liberty Bowl was dead set on a Big East vs SEC matchup.

I just read an article digging into it, I will say CUSA did drop the ball with Liberty bowl, they have a contract, and the only way for them to get that match up they wanted, they had to allow it because they are under contract.
With that said, to my surprise, the team that screwed the pooch the most was USM. Fedora was given the option to go to any bowl contracted through CUSA after liberty (because CUSA gave the bowl away), and they opted for Hawaii while all other CUSA spots were available, including the Ticketcity Bowl where they could have played Penn State in Dallas. So yea, CUSA did still S#$% the bed, but USM also equally screwed up deciding to go to Hawaii instead of taking a more regional bowl against a more exciting opponent.

Haven't really read that much on it but that is not too darn smart. Not sure of the payouts for both of those bowls (yes I could go look) but any difference is bound to be eaten up by lost ticket sales that USM is going to have to pay for.....Hawaii would be nice but you would put more butts in the seats in Dallas.

Absolutely. The "reasoning" behind Fedora was that Most of his players had never been to Hawaii, and it would be a nice reward for his players. While he did that, he punished not only the fans of his program with a money pit of a bowl, but also some of the families of the players (especially the seniors) who might not be able to afford the trip. Not to mention, I guess as a selfish College Football fan, I'd REALLY like to have seen a USM/Penn State match up.

Yea....playing Penn St would have been much more intriguing than Nevada in Hawaii. Penn St will travel. USM would have been close so they would have traveled. Hawaii bowl in on Christmas Eve as opposed to a 2 Jan bowl game in Dallas.
Kill travel due to distance and crappy economy. Kill travel due to it being Christmas. Miss chance to play a "named" school.

CUSA didn't do anything. CUSA gave USM the 1st pick of the bowl games. Larry Fedora picked the Hawaii Bowl. Not CUSA. Like it matters to Fedora since reports say he has accepted the UNC job.

So you're saying that CUSA doesn't have a contract with the Liberty bowl, and that they take the CUSA champion every year out of the kindness of their hearts?

From what I understand the Liberty Bowl had the same thought that 90% of everyone, that Houston would win CUSA and be 13-0. And had already set in motion to bring in a BE team. Then USM destroyed Houston in the championship game. USM could have played a 9-3 #24 Penn State team or a 9-3 BYU...

i know i'm a dumb@ss...proven many times over.
but i have a hard time believing usm 'let' the coach pick the bowl 'THE UNIVERSITY' was going to. if they let one guy pick it (who was already being rumored before saturday) then the fine people of mississippi are bigger dumb@sses than me.
and too bad for the families. this will probably be the only chance some of these kids will ever get to go there. if my son was offered something that i couldn't afford i'd be happy as hell for him.
