MAC Championship Game on ESPN2
I am so glad the Sunbelt does not have a conference championship game. I don’t know if you guys are watching the MAC championship on ESPN2, but the attendance in the stadium is pathetic for a championship game. The keep showing the Ohio QB’s dad in his seat and there in no one even in the section near him. Unless you are playing for a BCS bowl, a conference championship game may be pointless.
By the way, I am positive if the SBC did host a championship, we could generate more interest.

The MAC also, for reasons unknown, is playing the game at Ford Field in Detroit which seats like 100,000 people. I have no idea why they wouldnt put this at home sites
By the way, you'll notice even the MAC title game is played on a weeknight...

wow, Ohio is killing NIU. I wonder if that'll knock the cocky Huskie faithful down a notch.

Ohio did some things in the first half to impress me. They have a good looking QB that is mobile.
I'm wondering if this is what the high octane offense of NIU looks like against some semblance of a defense.

Maybe stAte and the SBC will benefit from the freeing up of the NIU AP and Coaches poll votes!

They should...NIU doesn't look like Top 25 material to me.

NIU comes back and wins on a last second field goal 23-20. Ohio looked like they went to the Steve Roberts school of playing with a 4th quarter lead... that was awful

.
They practically handed the game to NIU on a platter. Ohio made too many mistakes and just gave it away.

I'd love a Sun Belt championship game. I wouldn't want it in a stadium that holds 100,000....but how cool would it be to have Sun Belt games like the one we just saw to determine the conference champion.

Its completely doable IF and only IF it is played at the site of the team with the best record.
Id also work out a deal with a strong regional network instead of going national with ESPN. TV drives alot of SBC fan bases away.

Maybe its just me but I don't think I would want to be playing a December game in Ohio....at night!

Ford Field seats like 65k. And the crowd was much better than last years. Probably 12k. 6k for each team. Considering both teams were 5 hours away, that's not bad at all. It used to be better in the actual teams stadium but oh well.

The attendance really wasn't that bad considering it was played at a neutral site; I'm sure if this game was played at either teams home stadiums they would have a really good turnout.

I agree, the only teams who would travel well would be Toledo, BG, CMU, and WMU because of proximity to Detroit. EMU fans don't have legs so they don't even go to their own home games. If a team had an outstanding year I'm sure they would travel exeptionally well also.
But NIU in December... A good crowd, a home crowd yes but sell out? Maybe not NIU.
Toledo, Marshall, Miami, and BG are the only teams who did that back when the ships were played at MAC sites.

Weeknight? It was a Friday night game and the PAC 12 also had their championship game last night.

The game was on a Friday during Thanksgiving break for all our students and was at 10am local time.
We could have inflated our attendance by 8-10k like many other schools and said we had 20k at our game.
