I get what you're saying, but I guarantee that activity and participation will drop now in those OT threads.

I agree. Which means that people's activity here will drop probably too. Maybe not significantly but probably some.

I doubt the activity here will drop, people who are passionate about their teams will continue to come here to converse with people of institutions that are their conference peers, if for nothing else, there are no other active SBC sports forums.

As for the OT stuff, I was on the side of getting a discussion forum because the OT stuff just got to be to much. If that makes me a whiner, than so be it. Like I said, it has its place, but just not on a sports forum. I would hope it will do well, and in fact, I think that it will do better than just having all the random OT threads on here. It should/will encourage more people to take part in the discussion because they know that's what that forum is there for.

Yeah, because it was just sooooo damn hard for you not to read them. Especially since they bothered you so much. How dare we force you to read them.

I didn't read them, but when half the page is taken up with OT posts about some movie or video game, its very annoying. Like I said, if I want to watch cartoons, I don't turn on ESPN, I don't go to mcdonalds and ask for spaghetti, and it should be understood that you don't go to a sports forum to talk about Threes Company!

You know what...to hell with it. You really weird muthas can whine all you want to get your way. I just don't care. I'll take five seconds to click another link. Especially if it will make certain posters just shut the **** up. in reality though I probably will post here much less. Not because of the new forum but because of the unbelievable stupidity of some of the posters on here.

Half the page? Half the page, really?

Before the creation of the general discussion board, the front page had 7 OT threads out of a total of 43 threads.

On a typical day, the oldest threads are three to four days old. I'd think you have a point if active threads were being pushed off the front page by OT threads, but they aren't.

All of this is a moot point, because the general board has been created, having said that, any talk of the OT threads being a distraction, nuisance, inconvenience or taking up "half the page" is utter nonsense.

Now without the occasional OT threads, perhaps we can get 4-5 day old threads on the front page.

Yea, it was exaggerated, but the point is clear. Every day, 2-3 of the top posts in a sports forum are about tv shows. That looks like garbage to a poster coming over from another forum. Unlike you and some of your kind, I come here to actively talk ABOUT SPORTS, not about tv, video games, nachos, the color orange or mount rushmore...SPORTS! If you want to talk about tv or video games, there are thousands of forums dedicated to just that, THIS is the only place to speak about just SBC sports. If you fail to realize the importance of that, you fail miserably as a moderator for such a venue.

Looks like garbage to a poster coming from another forum? Seriously? Good grief man, your hyperbole truly knows no bound.

Again, if the OT threads were having an actual impact on actual relevant threads staying on the front page, I'd think you have a valid point, but clearly this is not the case.

Lastly, I can assure you that I take your appraisal of my abilities as a moderator very seriously...03-melodramatic

You don't think that it looks bad. If I went to the CUSA board and saw the most active thread was about Greys Anatomy, I'd wonder just what the hell was going on there. There's a time and a place for everything. You can say we can "ignore" these OT thread, just like I can say that if you want to post about Skyrim, you can do it on a forum that caters to that kind of discussion.

RE: Complaining
Truthfully believe that it is refreshing to sometimes come onto a board and find something different but that might interest many people. We spend so much time talking about athletics that it is interesting to find out who watches what or what they think is happening on a perticular series. The one that someone started on "Falling Skies" changed some of my views about what was happening. The "Walking Dead" thread clarified some important series things and changed my views on them. I know this is not the purpose of this board but it is akin to talking to people that you know, or share your love of sports with, and you feel like they are kind of (I hate to use this term) kindred spirits somewhat.
Here again, not trying to upset anyone with my view. Lord knows I have enough people that hate me evidently. Guess it doesn't really fit in with the boards purpose, but just thought it gave it more pizaaz.

Look this just boils down to a difference of opinion. You're one of about a half dozen people who have a problem with the OT threads. You guys got your general discussion board and that's all that really matters. You think its unbelievable that I don't see how its a problem and I think its unbelievable that anyone could be that bothered by it. Again, just a difference of opinion, but using Grey's as an example is sort of ridiculous, we're not sitting around talking about chick shows. But I digress, a stupid disagreement got really carried away and the matter has now been resolved so continuing to discuss it is entirely pointless.

RE: Complaining
The only reason I ever participated in the OT threads was because they were on the main page. I'm not going to waste any time actively seeking out threads about video games or tv shows, but if it was right in front of me I might read it if it was something I was interested in. There were many an OT thread that I never once clicked on though.

MT makes a good point - what does it matter if as it was you had 2-4 day old threads on the main page? So now you can have even older? Or so you can clutter up the main board with expansion thread after expansion thread or name pissing contests? That's what keeps people from visiting often - having the same thread done over and over again; not OT threads.

Bad move. I'd be curious for the mods to track hits on both this new forum and the old and see how far it drops.

Just went over to the C-USA board and their most active threads on the front page are:

Word Association thread with 12,640 replies
Soccer thread with 8,001 replies
XBOX360 Dynasty for NCAA 12 with 661 replies
PS3 NCAA 12 with 637 replies
