RE: Statement of Support from Faculty Senate
A Senator from the School of Medicine presented the concerns about the process by which the BOT announced its decision about the UAB campus stadium. The motion presented was approved by unanimous vote. A letter with the approved resolution will be sent to the BOT members with copies being sent to Chancellor Portera and President Garrison. The Senate members were also reminded that the February BOT meeting will be held on the UAB campus.

Where is this lack of support they speak of?

Butts in the seats are just one element...and a distorted one at that after countless losing seasons and a coach we were saddled with by some on the BOT. The body of evidence, so to speak, paints a clear picture as to where UAB's level of support is for this project.

I wonder if a statement of support from the Medical Alumni Association is possible?
Do you speak of the "University of Alabama Medical Alumni Society"? The one that has butted heads with the UAB National Alumni Society? The one that threw a hissy fit over changing the med student coat emblems from red to green? The one that constantly sends me letters asking for money while bashing UAB?

Doubt it...I could be wrong

This is a big deal.

If this issue comes to SACS intervention, the Faculty Senate's position on this issue of governance will be crucial. They've now made their position clear, and the Trustees are flouting their will.

Will be interesting to see if the political pressure on the BOT (from the local contingent) along with all of these other groups, organizations, etc. actually do convince the BOT that not only is a public vote needed but also that they need to vote in favor of this project because of all the support they are seeing from students, faculty, alumni, and local leaders.

I have a feeling that we will actually get a public vote on this in February (just my suspicion, but no sources or anything). Now the question is whether we have all the votes we need. I suspect that we will have the votes in the end (if we didn't already have them).

I think that will be what convinces the medical side to support this without any reservations.

Seeing all of the things that Tuscaloosa received, the medical people can't be happy seeing the cash cow being mistreated.

There are actually more and more doctors and medical students at UAB that support UAB athletics. UAB support within the med school seems to be growing and the UAB School of Medicine name has really caught on and seems to be the more commonly used name now.

I'm sure someone with a better sense of history will clarify and/or correct me on that.

Well how does the East side feel about the bond money going for $15 m for 2 fraternity houses in Tuscaloosa? Hell, UAB could build a fraternity row for that kind of money.

UAB money doesn't flow to Tuscaloosa to cover those bonds
