Not many people are going to show up and watch the Bobcats take on (for example...) Lamar. If Louisiana came to town, that would be a different story. Just because a school's stadium isn't large doesn't mean the program doesn't have potential if they move up. However, I agree that right now they're not at the needed level for an SBC team.
Outside of diehards, most fans won't know the difference between Southland teams and WAC or Sun Belt teams. It's a harsh reality, but it is a reality. Texas State will have an initial bump from the fact that they're moving to FBS and it will be publicized, but within a few years, whether in the WAC or Sun Belt, their conference games wouldn't be viewed much differently by the average fans than Southland games.

This is very true. I get that all the time here in Atlanta. I have to explain to people who watch football that schools like FIU and Houston are FBS (I-A). They think of the Big 6 as Division I

The Big 6 are division 1 as are the schools that play in the black hole called FCS.

I think the average SEC fan knows, or at least many of them. I guess that would fall in the die hard catergory by default since they are SEC fans.

I really don't think what you are saying is true unless you concider the majority of college football fans as diehards.
