Ben Schwartwalder Trophy the trophy that go goes to the winner of the WVU-SU winner.

These 2 teams have played each other 62 times and from every year starting 1945 have played .

WVU got 3 wins in a row time for SU to end that 04-cheers

I can't speak for the rest of WVU fans...for me...yes I care about the Schwartzwalder trophy...just not as much as I care about WVU winning the Black Diamond Trophy from Virginia Tech

-- In my book....SU is probably 4th when it comes to WVUs football rivals after Pitt, VT and Maryland....I could easily see Louisville jumping onto that list quickly as well...nothing against SU but the other schools I mentioned are on our door step geographically...that tends to make a rivalry more fierce

Marvin Graves begs to differ 04-cheers

For Syracuse WVU was #3 or 4 but since we lost Miami, VT and BC I think WVU is in the top 2.

In five years I project UConn will be our biggest FB rival followed by WVU, Pitt and UL

Miami and VT were the teams that got SU fans blood boiling. With them gone, they lack any team to hate in football. WVU is now the biggest football rival by de-fault. If UConn gets good the bad blood from hoops will jump to football.

-- I find it intersting that many SU fans considered VT a bigger football rival then BC while we were all together in the BE

-- Although I was just a kid on those days...I don't remember SU and WVU even considering each other rivals untill 1987....prior to then Pitt, Penn St and even Boston College were bigger games for Mountaineer fans

-- One of there more depressing things about the ACC raid is some of our traditional rivals get torn away....hopefully in time Louisville will replace VT for us and Uconn will replace BC for you guys...but no one...not even Miami could replace Penn St...I would bet both Syracuse and West Virginia fans could agree on that

The SU rivalry has cooled down a bit in recent years w/ the focus more on VPI, but I remember considering SU a huge rival back when they were really good. I think in the new Big East, SU will definitely be one of our top rivals.

VT and SU games in the mid to late 90's were top 25 clashes BE title implications. VT fans traveled decent to the Dome and added more animosity. BC was usually mediocre in the BE and traveled poorly. Bad blood towards BC didn't start until the ACC defection and their lame duck year.

I just hope Rutgers can form some rivalries with its traditional "rivals". Syracuse is certainly a team we love to hate, but frankly we're a nothing in their eyes and for the most part rightfully so. Connecticut has the makings of a rivalry since I think overall thats the closest thing we have to a rival. Cincinnati and South Florida to me for some reason have the feel of big rivalries in the making.

You'll get Syracuse's attention when you start making Bowl games. Win first then it'll develop.

-- I always thought Rutgers and WVU were close to having a rivalry in basketball...we just don't play enough anymore for it to take hold...after that great game in the NIT two yrs ago....the two schools only played each other once last yr at the very end of the season while WVU had a home and home with Seton Hall...it just doesn't make sense

And we go much farther back with each other than with anyone else we play in the Big East in terms of basketball. Our modern series stretches for 35 seasons and counting in terms of Basketball. I think Rutgers should likely have repeat opponents next year of WVU, SHU, and Connecticut. Since these three teams are our rivals or closest thing to it.
