RE: ACC Bowl Eligibility 2011
You realize it's still not outside the realm of possibility that the ACC might still get 2 BCS bids, right? I mean, look at the BCS Standings. Only 4 teams in front of Va Tech. 1 guaranteed to lose (LSU vs Arkansas). I likely to lose (Okie St). I won't play on championship Saturday (possibly Alabama). Can VT make the jump to #2? If so, Orange Bowl picks Clemson as replacement host team.

IT COULD HAPPEN! GO HOKIES!

I don't know if that is the best possibility for the ACC. LSU would destroy VT. The 20 yd QB sneak may work against Grohmentum, but it aint gonna work against LSU.

The Big East has 6 bowl slots. Notre Dame is 99% taking the 2nd spot (Champs). That leaves 5 guaranteed bowls. 4 Big East teams are already eligible and 5-5 Pitt still plays 5-5 Syracuse, so they will fill all available spots. They potentially will be sending a team elsewhere to fill someone else's open spot.

nd is 100% taking the 2nd spot. 2 teams from bigeasdt looking at not qualifying for post season are uconn and usf. I at this time think pitt and syracuse will likely end up eligible(syr beats cincy on senior day while pitt beats syr) anyone know what bowls are likely to need at large spots?

Ah, the good ol' days when Syracuse was getting poll votes, and the season looked so promising... 03-banghead

Miami responded well to Al's self imposed bowl ban ... by playing expectedly like they had nothing to play for.

If Syracuse wins today and Pitt wins next week, both will be bowl eligible. If Syracuse loses today, Syracuse and Pitt will play each other next week for bowl eligibility.

RE: ACC Bowl Eligibility 2011
did a quick projection of the acc bowls slots what do you guys think:

BCS: va tech/clemson
chick fil a: clemson/va tech
champs: florida state
Sun: virginia/GT
belk: georgia tech/unc/nc state
music: nc state/GT
independence: north carolina/GT
military:wake forest

bigeast is too much of a mess to try to pin down matchups except that nd is heading to the champs bowl

Wake cannot go to the Military Bowl as UNC cannot be selected ahead of Wake due to the 1 Game Rule (a bowl game can bypass a team in the selection process only if the two teams in question are within one game of each other in the overall ACC standings.). Wake's conference record is 5-3 & Carolina's is 3-5. Therefore UNC will be bowling in DC as they have the worst conference record.

This will likely be the list of ACC bowl attendees:

BCS: VT or Clemson
Chick-fil-a (aka Peach - I'm a purist): Clemson or VT
Champs: FSU
Sun: Virginia
Belk: NC State
Music City: GT
Independence: Wake Forest
Military: UNC

RE: ACC Bowl Eligibility 2011
Virginia & GT are also 5-3, so UNC can't be selected ahead of them either. NC State is 4-4, but given the UNC fanbase history of not traveling and their history of not winning bowl games and the ongoing NCAA investigation, NC State would be selected ahead of them too.

If UNC had any integrity, they would do as Miami did and do a self-imposed bowl ban. But we all know "The Carolina Way" is and always has been a farce.

GT better not drop one spot further. I don't know if GT can sustain another offseason predicated on laying an egg against Georgia and then doing the same in Shreveport against a bush league team. If that happens again, I don't think the fan base enters the 2012 season in a healthy state (plummeting season tickets, etc)
